Guardians: Nestor

Nestor's Appearance

Nestor uses he or they pronouns.

Nestor is the oldest Guardian of Not-Earth, and also the only one still remaining. Nestor's appearance can be described as a large, ambiguously-corporeal moose that changes in size as fits their needs. Their coat is a dark, faded blue color and is surprisingly soft and fluffy for a moose.

Nestor's most noticeable feature is that they always keep their eyes closed, except when they are using magic. Instead, a quantity of hovering glowing eyes swarm about them, doing the looking for them. Since Nestor is capable of turning invisible, it is not unusual for a cat to see a collection of floating eyes drifting above the treetops when Nestor is moving.

Known Abilities

Nestor's currently-known abilities include the following:

- Some sense of omniscience, though the limit of this is not yet known
- The ability to create portal-like gateways, some as far as between planets
- Invisibility and the ability to become incorporeal
- The ability to change his own size
- The ability to produce floating light-sources

It is possible that they have more abilities that have not yet been seen, but these are the ones the not-cats know about currently.

Not-cats that are ascended to Nestor will obtain some of these features, along with some unique ones. Nestor's ascended not-cats have:

- Improved vision
- Limited ability to fly
- The ability to produce floating light-sources

Nestor's Personality

Nestor's personality can be described as very gentle and quiet. They speak in a calm tone of voice, and always seem to be offering small gifts and trinkets and wishing not-cats well. Although it is clear that Nestor has a huge amount of wisdom, they often come off a bit spacey and lost. Perhaps it is the old age that has made them slightly disoriented, or perhaps they are simply deep in thought.

Being in Nestor's presence is said to give not-cats a deep sense of being loved and protected, but beyond that there is something inside Nestor that almost feels sad, like the nostalgia for a distant past that is gone but remembered fondly.

Before they brought the not-cats back to Not-Earth, Nestor spent most of their time bouncing between the cities of Earth, taking care of the not-cats and bringing them gifts. They still seem to do this, and will probably continue to do this until all of the not-cats have been returned from Earth. But as more and more cats leave Earth, Nestor spends more and more time rolling about in their clearing of flowers, where not-cats come to play in their fluffy coat, sometimes even braiding flowers into it.

Nestor's Origin

The widespread belief among not-cats is that Nestor was created by a powerful sense of hope and need amongst all of the not-cats in a time of deep hardship. Their collective longing as a species amidst the trials and tragedies of life was so powerful that it manifested itself into a very real, physical presence: Nestor. All their little kitty hopes and dreams and wishes were simply so strong that they assembled up in the ether and compressed themselves into a guardian who would protect and take care of them.

It's largely believed that without the not-cats there would be no Nestor, and without Nestor, the not-cats wouldn't be around anymore either.

The reality of the situation is that it is much more complicated than this, but the general idea that Nestor is a personification of not-kitty hopes & dreams that somehow intermingled with a magical force/entity is not too far off the mark.
