There are some questions that seem to come up relatively often, so I figured out I'd try to compile them along with their answers in one place.

How do I get more cats?
New cats can be acquired through Nestor, by having two cats start a family or purchasing them from other players via the Cat Recruitment Board.

How do relationships work?
The relationship tree goes as follows:

Acquaintance -> Friend -> Partner/Best Friend
Acquaintance -> Rival

Relationships can be obtained via daily scenarios, traveling cats sending letters, or by using Specialty items crafted via the Scribe job.

How many relationships can a not-cat have?
Depends on the type of relationship.

There is no limit for friends, rivals or familial relationships.

Best friends and partners share a cap of four at max. Meaning that a cat can have four partners and zero best friends, zero partners and four best friends, and any combination in between.

Can cats with no partners/multiple partners adopt a Nestor bean?
Any adult not-cats can adopt beans regardless of how many partners they have, their Wind, or the Wind of their partner(s).

Can Null cats be partners with other cats?
Any two adult not-related cats can be partners, regardless of Wind.

How do I start a family of beans?
To start a family, you need a pair of partnered adult not-related cats able to produce beans (North + South, North + Trade, South + Trade or Trade + Trade). You can either wait until they prompt you to start a family on your daily scenarios, or use the Catmint Tea item.

Do take mean that there is a 91 day cooldown on beans, which starts from the moment you make the choice for your cats to start a family.

How many beans can my cats have per litter?
Not-cats can have litters ranging from one to four beans. The chances are as follows:

One Bean: 5%
Two Beans: 60%
Three Beans: 34%
Four Beans: 1%

Average: 2.31 beans/litter.

What do the Expected Bean artworks mean?
They symbolize the Wind of the unborn bean.

Sideways, looking at right: North Wind.
Sideways, looking at left: South Wind.
Belly up: Trade Wind.
Curled up: Null Wind.

Prenatal bean illustrations gain eyes and antlers on the final day of gestation.

What is the deadline to match up adoptive littermates?
The option becomes unavailable when beans turn 28 days old, meaning that the deadline ends when the oldest bean is 27 days old.

How long do beans take to grow?
112 days from bean to adulthood (28 days per stage), and 119 days total if we count the pre-birth stage.

How do I breed Null cats?
You will need to have a North carrier and a South carrier for a chance for the offspring to be a Null. It will be a flat 25%, meaning that one in four beans will be a Null.

Note: To check for Null carrier status, you may use my cats 766 (North Wind) and 763 (South Wind) on the bean preview.

Why can't Trade cats produce Nulls?
Not-cats only have two Wind alleles. Trade Winds have both the North and South alleles, meaning it is impossible for them to carry the Null allele.

How do albinos work?
An Albino is a cat with at least one White Spotting YES allele whose White Spotting number is 10.

White Spotting is dominant and a range, so as long as one of the parents is Albino and both have at least one YES allele, all the offspring will have a chance of being Albino.

How do not-cat colors work?
Not-cat colors are numbered from 4 to 1, with 4 being the "strongest" color and 1 the "weakest".

Black range: Black (4), Chocolate (3), Brown (2), Tan (1).
Orange range: Red (4), Ginger (3), Orange (2), Apricot (1).
Grey range (dilute, recessive): Charcoal (4), Grey (3), Smoke (2), Silver (1).
Cream range (dilute, recessive): Buff (4), Cream (3), Almond (2), Beige (1).

North Wind cats show the first allele of their genetic string. South Wind cats show the second allele of their genetic string. Trade Wind cats have special rules: when both alleles match, you get a Watercolor, otherwise you get a Tortoiseshell in the color of the first allele.

How do I determine my cat's genetic string?
Darkfang8901 has a thread explaining how to determine a cat's genetic string and the unexpected results you may find on the Beans Sandbox in a simple manner. You can find it here.

Can cats die?
Cats cannot die. The only way to get rid of a cat is by selling or sending it to the city.

What are the consequences of sending a cat to the City?
Cats sent to the City get permanently removed from your village and the game. In exchange, you will be sent a Packaged Gift containing 80-120 Notes, materials and a collective item.

This action CANNOT be undone. Think it over well before sending any cats to the City.

What are traveling cats?
Traveling cats are cats that, while still being owned by you, do not currently reside in your Village.

Sending a cat traveling is, essentially, vaulting it. Traveling cats cannot perform daily activities or start families, but they can wear clothes, hold trinkets and be given all specialty items save Catmint Tea. They may occasionally send letters to cats residing in your Village.

There is a one week cooldown time before a cat can return to the Village.

Can I obtain more cat slots than the base 48?
Not at the moment, but this will eventually be an Adventuring reward (source).

How do I ascend a cat?
Ascension is currently unavailable and will likely remain unavailable until or after Adventuring is released. It is planned for the Heart of Nestor item to be used to Ascend cats, however.

What are the consequences of Ascension?
The consequences of ascending a cat are as follows:

A 1-6 point increase to all stats.
You'll be able to choose from a variety of Antlers and Halos to decorate your cat.
You'll be able to optionally choose from a variety of Wings and Eyes to decorate your cat.
Your cat will no longer be able to raise beans or perform daily duties.

Why can't I sell/trade my cat?
Make sure your cat is not on an Adventuring party, raising beans younger than adolescent, wearing any clothes, or holding a trinket.

Can I change a cat's colors, pattern, etc.?
It is currently not possible to change a cat's colors or patterns.

What's up with that "Unknown Aspect"?
The Unknown Aspect box is tied to the magic system, which is not implemented yet and won't be until post-beta.

How do I save a cat image out of site?
Due to how the site generates images, you must screenshot the cat to share it outside of PCE.

What sort of items can Nestor give to me?
Pretty much everything from cats to apparel. The only exceptions are items bought from NPC stores.

How much food do I need to feed my cats?
Depends on how many you have and their age. Adult not-cats spend one food item per head, while younger cats need less.

Do I need to feed my cats before doing my dailies?
No, luncheon is completely optional.

How do gathering rolls work?
Gathering rolls are randomized with a 1d20 die.

How do negative gathering modifiers work?
To make it so no cats are locked from obtaining good items, negative modifiers are only applied to the bottom of the roll. For example, a cat with a -2 stat has a roll of between -1 and 20 without accounting for weather penalties or luncheon.

Likewise, positive rolls only affect the bottom of the range, i.e.: it's not possible for a cat with a +1 modifier to roll a 21.

Is it possible to roll a natural 0?
It is currently possible to roll a natural 0. This is a glitch however and should not be able to happen under normal circumstances.

If any of your cats rolls a natural 0, please report it here. Do check the roll before posting, as cats might sometimes roll what seems to be a 0 due to modifiers.

How does item rarity work?
The rarity field is used for item draws by the game. Every item is assigned a rarity within an activity. Things that have no rarity set for a particular activity cannot drop from that activity at all.

Items arent weighted within these categores, so all Very Rare items from a job have an equal chance of dropping.

What is the maximum number of cats on a daily scenario?
Four cats.

What is the maximum number of daily scenarios & what is it tied to?
The number of daily scenarios is tied to your amount of cats older than bean and is always rounded up. Its maximum value is of 16.

Is there a set rate at which scenarios result in relationship changes?
Yes, and it's dependant on cat personalities. It ranges from 1/3 (33%) for two Jovial cats to 1/7 (approx. 14%) for two Commanding cats for positive changes. Negative relationships range from 1/5 (20%) to 1/9 (approx. 11%)

I received a letter saying someone was looking for employees! How do I apply?
It's a scam letter and you cannot apply for the job.

What's up with the last daily activity?
The last daily is tied to the magic system. It is not yet live and probably won't be until post-beta.

How do I unlock new jobs?
You may unlock new jobs by building the relevant job buildings for the first time. This thread includes all recipes.

Note that buying the relevant buildings from other players does NOT unlock jobs - only the act of crafting does.

Will I keep my unlocked jobs if I sell the buildings?
Yes - the game only checks if the building has been crafted, not if the building is still on your inventory.

Is there any recommended order for unlocking jobs?
The recommended order is Baker, Miner, Gardener/Herbalist/Farmer and Flockherd. From there onwards, the order doesn't matter.

How do I unlock the lodge?
The Lodge can be crafted via the Builder tab on the Crafting Workshop. It requires 100 Wooden Planks, 100 Bricks, 100 Sticky Glue, 100 Paints and 100 Iron Bars.

Can I obtain more scenes than the base 6?
Yes - more scenes can be purchased after crafting your first Village Lodge item.

Are there any events in PCE?
Yes! There are currently two main events implemented into the game:

- Snowmelt: First week of spring, Cats are more likely to start new relationships and have kittens, there are special holiday collectibles and decor/apparel.
- Leaf Day: Fifth week of Autumn, A harvest festival where food is much more plentiful, and there are special holiday collectibles and decor/apparel.

Two extra main events will be implemented in the future. From the Long Term Development Plan thread:

- Midsummer: Fourth week of Summer, Cats can participate in themed athletic or skill-based events and tournaments for badges and prizes.
- Candlelight: Fourth week of Winter, Ghosts come out and leave mystery gifts and coins which can be exchanged for special decor/apparel.

Additionally, cooperative world events will be added into the game post-beta.

What are Notes?
Paper Notes (singular Paper Note) are the primary currency of the site. They're used for transactions and can be obtained via trading with other users or by quick selling items.

What are Essence Fragments?
Essence Fragments (singular Essence Fragment) are the premium currency of the site. At the moment, they're obtainable via sending cats to the City, beating the Heart of the Woods for the first time, Adventuring boss drops, coloring contests, Anniversary Baskets and cat level-up Packs.

Essence Fragments will eventually be available for purchase with real-world currency, at a rate of 1USD per 10 Fragments.

How do I obtain items?
You can obtain items via daily activities or buying them from NPCs and players.

What are clothes?
Clothes are items with which you can decorate your cats. The maximum equipable is of 8.

How do I obtain clothes?
Clothes can be obtained via the gathering daily activity, by crafting or by buying at NPC stores.

What is decor?
Decor is a category of items with which you can decorate your scenes. There is a cap of 20 decor per scene.

How do I obtain decor?
Decor can be obtained via the gathering daily activity, by crafting or by buying at NPC stores.

When does Whiskers's restock?
Whiskers's Wares restocks at 00:02, 06:02, 12:02 and 18:02 server time.

What are Safekeeping and the Bank?
They're essentially vaults for your items and currency, respectively. Items and currency stored in Safekeeping/Bank cannot be used or traded away.

What is Adventuring?
Adventuring is a site activity where your cats can fight monsters, face skill challenges and more. It's been live since October 2nd, 2022

What stats do what?
- Melee attacks are affected by Strength.
- Ranged attacks are affected by Finesse.
- Dodges are affected by Agility.
- Initiative is affected by Perception.
- The total amount of Health is affected by Health.
- Healing by using Bandages is affected by Cleverness.
- Bravery and Benevolence are affected by the homonymic personality stats.
- Spite is inversely affected by Benevolence (i.e.: the lower Benevolence a cat has, the higher Spite).

How do I add a signature?
You may add or change your signature by going to Account Settings and then clicking on Change Forum Signature.

How do I format my posts?
By using BBCode. For a list of code the site supports, check this guide.

How do I share a cat on site?
You may share a cat on PCE's forums by typing [ cat=ID ] (without the spaces). Example: [ cat=762 ] turns into this if you remove the spaces:


How do I ping someone?
Simply put an @ before their username. Example: @Fortnite.

Note that pings don't work if you add them after editing your message.

When is the next registration?
The date for the next registration window is usually shown at the top of Latest Announcements, on the site's homepage.

Can I start over with a new account?
No. As per the Terms of Service you agreed to when registering, you may only make one account. Additionally, your account may not be lent, traded or sold.

What is PCE/site time?
The time currently on the site. It can be seen on the upper left corner of any page, right below the logo. PCE runs on Eastern Time (ET).

How can I economically support the site?
For now, donations can be made via Ko-fi.

If you use an adblocker, you can disable it for PCE if you haven't done so already.

Eventually you'll be able to support the site by buying Essence Fragments (premium currency) as well.

Is there an official PCE Discord server?
No, but unnoficial ones can be made in accordance to the Community Guidelines and may be promoted in the Off-Topic Discussion subforum.

What's the little rainbow in your profile?
It's essentially a chart that represents the age of your account.

Can I change my username?
Yes, under Account Settings. There is a cooldown of 30 days between each username change. Only exception is capitalization, which can be changed whenever.

I don't want people to send me PMs, comment on my profile, send friend requests, etc. Is there a way to prevent it?
Yes, under Account Settings. There are different tiers for each privacy setting, so you can mix and match to your liking.

How does blocking work?
PCE's blocking system works on different tiers. You may:

Hide an user's forum posts from your view.
Hide your forum posts, profile, scenes, and cats from the user's view.
Prevent the user from contacting you directly, posting on your profile, or adding you as a friend.

These can be mixed and matched to your liking, effectively allowing you to "softblock" or "hardblock" other users.

Aaand that should be it!

you can sell and trade travelling cats. the person you are selling to/trading with has to have a space in their active village, as the cat will go from your travelling cats to their active cats.
