All About Notes
Notes are used for a majority of your purchases on PCE. You will find them useful for the following transactions:
- Buying from the City Shops.
- Buying cats from the Cat Recruitment Board.
- Buying items off of the Open Marketplace.
- Buying active village and scenery slots from the Village Lodge.
- Commissioning art from artists.
Currently, the ways to make notes are as follows:
- Quickselling items to Brian.
- Opening certain openable items.
- Selling your items/cats to other players.
- Sending a cat to the city.
- Making an art shop.
Quickselling to Brian
You can access the
Quick Sales page by going to Market & Trades -> Quick Sales.
As a new player, it's a bit tricky to figure out which of your resources are safe to sell. Always check the
Complete Crafting Recipes database to see if any of your resources have a use. Note that just because an item doesn't have a use now doesn't mean it won't get one later — every single item has been added with a purpose in mind.
At this point in time, Luncheon recipes do NOT appear in the Crafting Database.
Here are the items that I recommend quickselling if you'd rather have the notes. There are three categories:
Safe Quickselling Items,
Uncertain Quickselling Items, and
Do Not Quicksell Items. Each category is ordered from "most recommended" to "least recommended."

Safe Quickselling Items
These are items that are pretty safe to quicksell to Brian if you're looking to make notes.
Collectables (particularly Wood Carvings & those from Adventuring)
These sell at 25 notes a pop. They only exist to look pretty on your Collections page, so selling any duplicates you get will add up quickly.
Some sets may sell for more on the Open Marketplace. They may sell slowly, but you may find the extra notes worth the wait.
Do not QS event collectible sets! These collectible sets are only largely available during the specific event they release for, and therefore have incredible player-to-player resale value.
Scar Clothing (from Adventuring)
Scars are available from every single Adventuring zone. Since they are incredibly easy to acquire as you don't need to grind in a certain area, they will accumulate over time and make you many notes from quickselling them.
Unnerving Statue & Heart of the Woods Map
These two Decor drops are possible drops by Shadow of Nestor. If you regularly play through Adventuring to the end, you'll probably end up with a couple of these! They are safe to quicksell if you aren't planning on using a ton of them.
Common & Uncommon Variants of Heart of the Woods Enemies
All of the enemy drops from Adventuring are Decor/Building items. At 25 notes each, they are very good contenders to QS. If you frequently Adventure, you'll have a ton of these and won't hurt too much by selling several copies.
I don't recommend QSing the Rare variants of enemies, however! Some people collect the Rare variants and will pay much more than 25 notes to purchase one off of the Open Marketplace.
Heart of the Woods Clothing & Decor
Heart of the Woods is an extremely easy Adventuring area to get through. These items all exist en masse and can easily be purchased off of the Open Marketplace if needed in a pinch for around 26 notes. If you go through Heart of the Woods often, save a handful of copies of each you like, and QS the rest.
Trinkets (particularly Crumpled Paper Balls and other +1 physical stat ones)
Trinkets also sell at 25 notes each. As you check the Post Office each day and welcome Young Kittens into your village, you will find that you have more Trinkets than cats, making these safe to sell. Crumpled Paper Balls are common from spam letters, so these are likely to be the ones you have the most of.
If you Adventure a lot, you will find that you accumulate a lot of Trinkets. Even as a new player, you'll end up with more Trinkets than cats. If you want some extra cash, then QSing the +1 physical stat trinkets is a safe bet. The +2 and +3 physical stat trinkets will always be better than using a +1 one, so unless you're using one in a pinch, you may find them more useful to be sold.
Lakeweed, Freshwater Mussels, & Crayfish
These are all used in a couple of Luncheon recipes and nothing else at the moment. They are recommended to be sold if you have a collection of them, especially if you don't use their Luncheon recipes.
Sticks
If you're a seasoned player who has gone through Adventuring numerous times, chances are you have a ton of Sticks; a lot more than you know what to do with! These only QS at 1 note each, but they're easy to build up thanks for being a common drop from the Heart of the Woods. In a pinch, they can be useful to QS, especially since they're easily replenishable.
Large Autumn Leaves & Large Crunchy Leaves
These two leaf variants are only used in crafting recipes. They only sell for 1 note each, but if you Adventure in Heart of the Woods often during Autumn and Winter, they will pile up and make a nice contender to quicksell if you don't care for the Buildings they are used to make.
Not to be confused with the green Large Leaves, which Flockherds can use to perform their day jobs.
Chamomile
Chamomile is a relatively common Heart of the Woods drop. It is used for Apothecary's day job and two crafting recipes, which makes it slightly powerful as a resource, especially if you have many Apothecaries in your village. Due to Apothecary being a lategame occupation, Chamomile is an excellent newbie-friendly QS item provided you go through Heart of the Woods a few times.
Red Meat & Fish
These items are easily acquired through the Hunter and Fisher occupations. You will end up with a ton of these over time. They are currently used for several Luncheon recipes and Baker recipes for dried counterparts.
The reasons I recommend QSing these are because they are common, there are a ton of Luncheon recipes to use, and Bakers can produce the snack variants by rolling high enough for their gathering of the day. As a new player looking to get some notes quickly, these are your best bet.
Licorice
Licorice is a rare find through the Gatherer occupation and is a bit more common to bring back through Herbalist. Its only uses right now are in Baker recipes and one Luncheon recipe, so using the same philosophy as above, these are recommended to be sold.
The Luncheon recipe it is used for is Watermeowlon Jelly, which does give a variety of neat perks. However, one being Health (used only in Adventuring) and another ingredient being Watermeowlon (a rare Farmer drop), it is one of the lower-tiered Luncheons. You're likely going to be using other recipes if deciding to feed your cats lunch for the day.
Mixed Seeds
Same philosophy as Sticks, but since Mixed Seeds are used for many day jobs, I recommend QSing them less.
Poisonous Mushrooms
These are only used in a crafting recipe for an Adventuring gear. The gear they craft will not be required for anything, so they are safe to QS at 5 notes each, especially if you don't use bolts.
Student Homework
The homeworks are a common Student resource with no use beyond being something to fill the common slot. Make sure to save a few copies of each homework just to be prepared in case they get a crafting use in the future, since they can't be farmed infinitely.
Remember that this list is not a gold standard; you are free to QS whatever you have. This list is a recommendation if you are unsure of what to get rid of.
Uncertain Selling Items
These are items that seem enticing to sell, but it may be best to hold onto them for a while.
Moss, Glowing Mushroom, Tree Bark, Snake Shed, Acorns, Nightgloom Flowers, & Frostdew Flowers
These are all Heart of the Woods resources that currently don't have any use. If you do decide to QS these, make sure you keep a few on-hand so you're prepared for any new recipes they are apart of.
Crickets
If you have a ton of Bug Catchers, you may find it worthwhile to quicksell extra Crickets if your Bakers can't keep up with converting them to Bug Flour. However, Bug Flour is a useful ingredient because it is used to make Crispy Fried Fowl, which is a high-tier Luncheon for Adventuring. For that reason, I wouldn't deplete your stores entirely.
Uncut Rose Quartz
A bit of a rare Miner item, Uncut Rose Quartz currently has no use. I only recommend QSing these if you don't care for the Blacksmith recipes as it will likely find its way into one of those in the future or if you are looking to make a good amount of notes quickly.
Fallen Meteorite
This winter-exclusive item has no use right now, but will very likely in the future. As a winter-exclusive, I don't recommend QSing them, but they can make some notes in a pinch if needed.
Fireflies & Silver Fireflies
These are relatively common drops from Bug Catcher. At this point in time, the fireflies don't have any use on site. They will eventually be used for
magic related recipes, however there is no ETA on when they will be gaining a use. They QS for 5 notes each, so they are safe to turn into notes if you need quick money, especially if you have a ton of Bug Catchers.
As the Silver Fireflies are a Winter exclusive, I recommend QSing them less than the regular ones.
Snowdrops
Like the Fireflies, these will be used for Alchemy. Specifically, the Alchemist job: 3 Snowdrops will be used for the Alchemist to perform their day job. Because this is a Winter exclusive resource, I wouldn't quicksell these at all.
Make sure you double-check what seasons items are available in! Remus has a handy reference
here. I recommend holding onto items only found in one season, especially those exclusive to Winter.
Do Not Quicksell Items
Listed in no particular order, these are items you should never QS due to their uses and/or player-to-player resale value.
All Gardener Flowers
These flowers (and those not listed as examples) are all used as dyes, and in the case of the non-winter flowers, are also used in the Scribe relationship items' recipes. The 5 notes you get from QSing is not at all worth the crafting power and resale value these flowers have.
Catmint
Catmint is one of the most powerful resources in the game. It is used to craft an Apothecary's Workstation and Catmint Tea, and is also confirmed to be used for many magic recipes and jobs. Like the Gardener flowers, the 5 notes you get from QSing is nothing compared to its power.
Paper Bark
Like Catmint, Paper Bark is another extremely powerful resource due to its
crafting ability. It is a rare Gatherer drop and should never be QS'd due to its versatility and resale value.
Shadow of Nestor Resource Drops
All seven of these items will be used in Alchemy-related recipes. Due to their rarity as a boss drop, with some being seasonal, these should never be QS'd, and I don't even recommend selling them to other players prior to the launch of Alchemy.
Event Collectibles
These are only QSable during the event they release in (they are unable to be QS'd after their event is over), however these should not be QS'd at all due to their resale value.
Opening certain openable items
There are certain items you can obtain from various sources that can give you notes.
Treasure Box & Enchanted Treasure Box
Both of these boxes have a 1/8 chance to drop from defeating Shadow of Nestor. Both give 150 notes, with the latter also giving 1 Essence Fragment.
Denim Traveler's Pack
Awarded each time your cat hits levels 2-4 for the first time in a class. Gives 50 notes when opened.
Selling your items/cats to other players
The easiest way to do these is through the
Open Marketplace and
Cat Recruitment Board. Making a thread on the forums will also help with visibility.
Sell resources you have extras of. Ones people are more interested in are flowers (used for dyes), Catmint, Paper Bark, and any occupation Building crafting recipe ingredients, which are resources such as Wooden Planks, Sticks, and Rocks.
Unsure of how to price resources? Whiskers prices items at 4x their QS price if they're in season and 12x their QS price if they're out of season.
Pricing cats is a bit more tricky as there are many traits they can have. A rule of thumb is that nulls, albinos, dilute colorations (particularly greys), and cats with a higher base stat total will increase their value. Cats with certain recessive genes can also make them more valuable. Of course, cats are worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them.
Sending a cat to the city
!! DO NOT SEND YOUR CAT TO THE CITY IF YOU ARE A NEW PLAYER !!
Sending a cat to the city will effectively remove them from the game. They are removed from your village and will take residence in Gardenhome City. They will receive a small bit of lore about what they're doing in the city and, upon the action of being sent to live in the city, will provide your village with a small packaged gift that includes 150 paper notes, 1 essence fragment, an assortment of materials, and a postcard collectable item.
Currently, cats sell for several hundred notes more on the Cat Recruitment Board. Postcard collectables can also be sent home by Traveling cats. While this method awards notes quickly, it is recommended that you only send cats to the city if you are short on both village and traveling cat space. If you are a new player with only a handful of cats, avoid this method of acquiring notes; you will want the gathering power as you're collecting resources to craft items.
If you decide to send cats to the city, make sure you level them up in Adventuring first, so you can get their Denim Traveler's Packs!
Making an art shop
You can make an art shop in the
Art Sales board. Many players in the community adore getting art of their cats and OCs, so it can be easy to build up notes with a shop. If you're unsure how to value your art, check around other shops and see what they're selling for.
Not a visual artist? No worries! Writing services (usually advertised as a "lore shop") also fall under this category.
