beans1 Beginner's Guide to Moneymaking beans2

You just joined Pixel Cat's End. One of your first questions after completing your dailies is likely "How do I make money?"

To start, here is an explanation about the two types of currency in the game:

2note Notes are the standard currency. These will be used in a majority of your purchases. They are primarily used in the City Shops.

essencefragment Essence Fragments are the premium currency. These will be used to make more 'special' purchases.

It should be noted that notes are not as important as standard currencies in other games. In fact, notes were almost not a feature! They were added to make trading easier between players. Because of this, notes do not serve as prominent of a purpose; you can get everything you'd ever need without ever spending a single note.

However, notes can be useful to pad out your inventory or make scratching out your wishlist much easier, so begs the question: how do I make money?

1000note All About Notes 1000note

Notes are used for a majority of your purchases on PCE. You will find them useful for the following transactions:
  1. Buying from the City Shops.
  2. Buying cats from the Cat Recruitment Board.
  3. Buying items off of the Open Marketplace.
  4. Buying active village and scenery slots from the Village Lodge.
  5. Commissioning art from artists.
Currently, the ways to make notes are as follows:
  1. Quickselling items to Brian.
  2. Opening certain openable items.
  3. Selling your items/cats to other players.
  4. Sending a cat to the city.
  5. Making an art shop.
wallet Quickselling to Brian
You can access the Quick Sales page by going to Market & Trades -> Quick Sales.

As a new player, it's a bit tricky to figure out which of your resources are safe to sell. Always check the Complete Crafting Recipes database to see if any of your resources have a use. Note that just because an item doesn't have a use now doesn't mean it won't get one later — every single item has been added with a purpose in mind.

At this point in time, Luncheon recipes do NOT appear in the Crafting Database.

Here are the items that I recommend quickselling if you'd rather have the notes. There are three categories: Safe Quickselling Items, Uncertain Quickselling Items, and Do Not Quicksell Items. Each category is ordered from "most recommended" to "least recommended."
Last updated April 14th, 2024.

yes Safe Quickselling Items
These are items that are pretty safe to quicksell to Brian if you're looking to make notes.

collectablesCarved Wood Sitting Cat
collectablesCarved Wood Kittens
collectablesLost Rusty Buttons
collectablesOld Cat Pendant

Collectables (particularly Wood Carvings & those from Adventuring)
These sell at 25 notes a pop. They only exist to look pretty on your Collections page, so selling any duplicates you get will add up quickly.

Some sets may sell for more on the Open Marketplace. They may sell slowly, but you may find the extra notes worth the wait.

Do not QS event collectible sets! These collectible sets are only largely available during the specific event they release for, and therefore have incredible player-to-player resale value.

clothingDark Back Scars
clothingLight Back Leg Scars
clothingDark Front Leg Scars
clothingLight Tail Scars

Scar Clothing (from Adventuring)
Scars are available from every single Adventuring zone. Since they are incredibly easy to acquire as you don't need to grind in a certain area, they will accumulate over time and make you many notes from quickselling them.

decorUnnerving Statue
decorHeart of the Woods Map

Unnerving Statue & Heart of the Woods Map
These two Decor drops are possible drops by Shadow of Nestor. If you regularly play through Adventuring to the end, you'll probably end up with a couple of these! They are safe to quicksell if you aren't planning on using a ton of them.

decorBrown Toothy Rat
decorSilver Toothy Rat
decorCommon Grapevine Deer
decorDusky Grapevine Deer

Common & Uncommon Variants of Heart of the Woods Enemies
All of the enemy drops from Adventuring are Decor/Building items. At 25 notes each, they are very good contenders to QS. If you frequently Adventure, you'll have a ton of these and won't hurt too much by selling several copies.

I don't recommend QSing the Rare variants of enemies, however! Some people collect the Rare variants and will pay much more than 25 notes to purchase one off of the Open Marketplace.

clothingHardwood Bark Armor
clothingLightwood Sword
decorScattered Stones
decorBrambleberry Bush

Heart of the Woods Clothing & Decor
Heart of the Woods is an extremely easy Adventuring area to get through. These items all exist en masse and can easily be purchased off of the Open Marketplace if needed in a pinch for around 26 notes. If you go through Heart of the Woods often, save a handful of copies of each you like, and QS the rest.

trinketsCrumpled Paper Ball
trinketsSuspicious Scam Letter

Trinkets (particularly Crumpled Paper Balls and other +1 physical stat ones)
Trinkets also sell at 25 notes each. As you check the Post Office each day and welcome Young Kittens into your village, you will find that you have more Trinkets than cats, making these safe to sell. Crumpled Paper Balls are common from spam letters, so these are likely to be the ones you have the most of.

If you Adventure a lot, you will find that you accumulate a lot of Trinkets. Even as a new player, you'll end up with more Trinkets than cats. If you want some extra cash, then QSing the +1 physical stat trinkets is a safe bet. The +2 and +3 physical stat trinkets will always be better than using a +1 one, so unless you're using one in a pinch, you may find them more useful to be sold.

resourcesLakeweed
resourcesFreshwater Mussels
resourcesCrayfish

Lakeweed, Freshwater Mussels, & Crayfish
These are all used in a couple of Luncheon recipes and nothing else at the moment. They are recommended to be sold if you have a collection of them, especially if you don't use their Luncheon recipes.

resourcesSticks

Sticks
If you're a seasoned player who has gone through Adventuring numerous times, chances are you have a ton of Sticks; a lot more than you know what to do with! These only QS at 1 note each, but they're easy to build up thanks for being a common drop from the Heart of the Woods. In a pinch, they can be useful to QS, especially since they're easily replenishable.

resourcesLarge Autumn Leaves
resourcesLarge Crunchy Leaves

Large Autumn Leaves & Large Crunchy Leaves
These two leaf variants are only used in crafting recipes. They only sell for 1 note each, but if you Adventure in Heart of the Woods often during Autumn and Winter, they will pile up and make a nice contender to quicksell if you don't care for the Buildings they are used to make.

Not to be confused with the green Large Leaves, which Flockherds can use to perform their day jobs.

resourcesChamomile

Chamomile
Chamomile is a relatively common Heart of the Woods drop. It is used for Apothecary's day job and two crafting recipes, which makes it slightly powerful as a resource, especially if you have many Apothecaries in your village. Due to Apothecary being a lategame occupation, Chamomile is an excellent newbie-friendly QS item provided you go through Heart of the Woods a few times.

resourcesRed Meat
resourcesFish

Red Meat & Fish
These items are easily acquired through the Hunter and Fisher occupations. You will end up with a ton of these over time. They are currently used for several Luncheon recipes and Baker recipes for dried counterparts.

The reasons I recommend QSing these are because they are common, there are a ton of Luncheon recipes to use, and Bakers can produce the snack variants by rolling high enough for their gathering of the day. As a new player looking to get some notes quickly, these are your best bet.

resourcesLicorice

Licorice
Licorice is a rare find through the Gatherer occupation and is a bit more common to bring back through Herbalist. Its only uses right now are in Baker recipes and one Luncheon recipe, so using the same philosophy as above, these are recommended to be sold.

The Luncheon recipe it is used for is Watermeowlon Jelly, which does give a variety of neat perks. However, one being Health (used only in Adventuring) and another ingredient being Watermeowlon (a rare Farmer drop), it is one of the lower-tiered Luncheons. You're likely going to be using other recipes if deciding to feed your cats lunch for the day.

resourcesMixed Seeds

Mixed Seeds
Same philosophy as Sticks, but since Mixed Seeds are used for many day jobs, I recommend QSing them less.

resourcesPoisonous Mushrooms

Poisonous Mushrooms
These are only used in a crafting recipe for an Adventuring gear. The gear they craft will not be required for anything, so they are safe to QS at 5 notes each, especially if you don't use bolts.

resourcesWriting Practice
resourcesClassroom Doodles

Student Homework
The homeworks are a common Student resource with no use beyond being something to fill the common slot. Make sure to save a few copies of each homework just to be prepared in case they get a crafting use in the future, since they can't be farmed infinitely.

Remember that this list is not a gold standard; you are free to QS whatever you have. This list is a recommendation if you are unsure of what to get rid of.

OSHAapproved Uncertain Selling Items
These are items that seem enticing to sell, but it may be best to hold onto them for a while.

resourcesMoss
resourcesGlowing Mushroom
resourcesTree Bark
resourcesSnake Shed
resourcesAcorns
resourcesNightgloom Flowers
resourcesFrostdew Flowers

Moss, Glowing Mushroom, Tree Bark, Snake Shed, Acorns, Nightgloom Flowers, & Frostdew Flowers
These are all Heart of the Woods resources that currently don't have any use. If you do decide to QS these, make sure you keep a few on-hand so you're prepared for any new recipes they are apart of.

resourcesCrickets

Crickets
If you have a ton of Bug Catchers, you may find it worthwhile to quicksell extra Crickets if your Bakers can't keep up with converting them to Bug Flour. However, Bug Flour is a useful ingredient because it is used to make Crispy Fried Fowl, which is a high-tier Luncheon for Adventuring. For that reason, I wouldn't deplete your stores entirely.

resourcesUncut Rose Quartz

Uncut Rose Quartz
A bit of a rare Miner item, Uncut Rose Quartz currently has no use. I only recommend QSing these if you don't care for the Blacksmith recipes as it will likely find its way into one of those in the future or if you are looking to make a good amount of notes quickly.

resourcesFallen Meteorite

Fallen Meteorite
This winter-exclusive item has no use right now, but will very likely in the future. As a winter-exclusive, I don't recommend QSing them, but they can make some notes in a pinch if needed.

resourcesFireflies
resourcesSilver Fireflies

Fireflies & Silver Fireflies
These are relatively common drops from Bug Catcher. At this point in time, the fireflies don't have any use on site. They will eventually be used for magic related recipes, however there is no ETA on when they will be gaining a use. They QS for 5 notes each, so they are safe to turn into notes if you need quick money, especially if you have a ton of Bug Catchers.

As the Silver Fireflies are a Winter exclusive, I recommend QSing them less than the regular ones.

resourcesSnowdrops

Snowdrops
Like the Fireflies, these will be used for Alchemy. Specifically, the Alchemist job: 3 Snowdrops will be used for the Alchemist to perform their day job. Because this is a Winter exclusive resource, I wouldn't quicksell these at all.

Make sure you double-check what seasons items are available in! Remus has a handy reference here. I recommend holding onto items only found in one season, especially those exclusive to Winter.

no Do Not Quicksell Items
Listed in no particular order, these are items you should never QS due to their uses and/or player-to-player resale value.

resourcesRed Carnations
resourcesTiger Lilies
resourcesSunflowers
resourcesGreen Dianthus
resourcesPeriwinkle
resourcesCrocus
resourcesNot-Holly
resourcesForget-me-Not

All Gardener Flowers
These flowers (and those not listed as examples) are all used as dyes, and in the case of the non-winter flowers, are also used in the Scribe relationship items' recipes. The 5 notes you get from QSing is not at all worth the crafting power and resale value these flowers have.

resourcesCatmint

Catmint
Catmint is one of the most powerful resources in the game. It is used to craft an Apothecary's Workstation and Catmint Tea, and is also confirmed to be used for many magic recipes and jobs. Like the Gardener flowers, the 5 notes you get from QSing is nothing compared to its power.

resourcesPaper Bark

Paper Bark
Like Catmint, Paper Bark is another extremely powerful resource due to its crafting ability. It is a rare Gatherer drop and should never be QS'd due to its versatility and resale value.

resourcesOrangeberries
resourcesAshroot Seeds
resourcesCrimson Shieldplant
resourcesLavender Canopy Flowers
resourcesBitter Acorns
resourcesWhiskershelf Fungus
resourcesVial of Null Aspect

Shadow of Nestor Resource Drops
All seven of these items will be used in Alchemy-related recipes. Due to their rarity as a boss drop, with some being seasonal, these should never be QS'd, and I don't even recommend selling them to other players prior to the launch of Alchemy.

collectablesMelted Frost Springshrew
collectablesFarmer’s Market Leafhog
collectablesSpringsnail Mail

Event Collectibles
These are only QSable during the event they release in (they are unable to be QS'd after their event is over), however these should not be QS'd at all due to their resale value.

backpack Opening certain openable items
There are certain items you can obtain from various sources that can give you notes.

specialTreasure Box
specialEnchanted Treasure Box

Treasure Box & Enchanted Treasure Box
Both of these boxes have a 1/8 chance to drop from defeating Shadow of Nestor. Both give 150 notes, with the latter also giving 1 Essence Fragment.

specialDenim Traveler's Pack

Denim Traveler's Pack
Awarded each time your cat hits levels 2-4 for the first time in a class. Gives 50 notes when opened.

friends Selling your items/cats to other players
The easiest way to do these is through the Open Marketplace and Cat Recruitment Board. Making a thread on the forums will also help with visibility.

Sell resources you have extras of. Ones people are more interested in are flowers (used for dyes), Catmint, Paper Bark, and any occupation Building crafting recipe ingredients, which are resources such as Wooden Planks, Sticks, and Rocks.

Unsure of how to price resources? Whiskers prices items at 4x their QS price if they're in season and 12x their QS price if they're out of season.

Pricing cats is a bit more tricky as there are many traits they can have. A rule of thumb is that nulls, albinos, dilute colorations (particularly greys), and cats with a higher base stat total will increase their value. Cats with certain recessive genes can also make them more valuable. Of course, cats are worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them.

house Sending a cat to the city
!! DO NOT SEND YOUR CAT TO THE CITY IF YOU ARE A NEW PLAYER !!

Sending a cat to the city will effectively remove them from the game. They are removed from your village and will take residence in Gardenhome City. They will receive a small bit of lore about what they're doing in the city and, upon the action of being sent to live in the city, will provide your village with a small packaged gift that includes 150 paper notes, 1 essence fragment, an assortment of materials, and a postcard collectable item.

Currently, cats sell for several hundred notes more on the Cat Recruitment Board. Postcard collectables can also be sent home by Traveling cats. While this method awards notes quickly, it is recommended that you only send cats to the city if you are short on both village and traveling cat space. If you are a new player with only a handful of cats, avoid this method of acquiring notes; you will want the gathering power as you're collecting resources to craft items.

If you decide to send cats to the city, make sure you level them up in Adventuring first, so you can get their Denim Traveler's Packs!

painting Making an art shop
You can make an art shop in the Art Sales board. Many players in the community adore getting art of their cats and OCs, so it can be easy to build up notes with a shop. If you're unsure how to value your art, check around other shops and see what they're selling for.

Not a visual artist? No worries! Writing services (usually advertised as a "lore shop") also fall under this category.

essencefragment All About Essence Fragments essencefragment
Essence Fragments are used for making more 'premium' purchases. They will primarily be acquired through purchasing them with real-life currency at a rate of 10 fragments for 1$ (USD), however several gameplay methods award them.

Ways the get Essence Fragments are:
  1. Packaged Gifts from sending a cat to the city (awards 1).
  2. Denim Traveler's Packs (awards 1).
  3. Enchanted Treasure Boxes (awards 1).
  4. Anniversary Gift from Nestor for your account anniversary (awards 100).
  5. Site contests & scenario/letter implementation (awards 100-200 depending on what it is).
  6. Defeating the Heart of the Woods boss for the first time (awards 30).
Currently you can use Essence Fragments to purchase items from the Gardenhome City Theatre and the Artisan's Market. It has also been confirmed that the item to change your not-cat to the Mercat species will cost 100 Essence Fragments. These will be very powerful currency, so make sure to stock up!

tinyadventurer Making Notes with Adventuring tinyadventurer

While many of the site mechanics are fixed, Adventuring is something you can do as many times as you want per day. This makes it the main method for gathering notes. Adventuring is pretty open-ended in how you can tackle it, but here are my ways for grinding for notes.

These two methods are for Heart of the Woods using the level 4 cap.

backpack Grinding for level-up bags backpack

For this method you will want two cats that are level 4 in Fighter with high Strength, and Agility, and decent Health, the more dice the better, and both cats should have some level of positive Harmony. Here's why:
  • Technically the class this cat is level 4 in doesn't matter as long as they are level 4, however a level 4 Fighter will have access to Bite. They unlock this at level 2, but getting to level 4 in one class takes less time than level 2 in one class and level 4 in another.
  • At level 4, the cat's base dice value gets increased. This means regular attacks do 2 damage and critical successes do 3 (without harmony). This allows you to do more damage and get through battles more quickly.
  • The more Strength your cat has, the more base dice they'll have to use when making melee attacks. Bite gives +2 dice on top of this, so you can have a cat with lower Strength, but the battling may go more slowly.
  • The more Agility your cat has, the higher their tile movement will be, which allows them to reach enemies quicker. More Agility also increases their dodge dice, which makes for good defense.
  • These cats will be taking hits and should have a decent amount of Health to survive.
The other two cats don't matter, as long as they can still earn Adventuring packs. Fresh level 1 never-stepped-foot-into-the-woods cats will be perfect for this, but you can bring along a cat that's level 2 in a class and hasn't gotten their level 3 pack yet, for example.

Make sure every single cat has the Climb Skill. None of them should have the Swim Skill. You can populate the other Skills with ones such as Listen, Spot, and Track in order to boost your chance at getting items from their respective tests.

Make sure your two trainees are the Scout class. This allows them to have a higher success at some skill checks and will also give them access to Call to Action at level 2.

Optional: feed your cats either Grilled Steaks or Crispy Fried Fowl through Daily Luncheon. Both of these recipes will give extra melee dice, powering up your Fighter's Bite. If you have the resources, feed Spiced Catrot Soup or Stuffed Pumpkits Stew, which boost melee dice and movement tiles. It is not necessary to do this, but extra dice are always helpful.

The method is simple: bring your two level 4 cats with Bite with their two friends into an Adventuring area. Being level 4, these cats should have the Initiative and HP to move first and take hits for the trainees.

For the most part, your trainees will be hanging with each other in the corner. Unless they have high enough stats to fight, then they should be spending their turns blocking away from enemies. Trying to make a cat with only two attacking dice do some damage is only going to slow you down as you play their turns out.

To maximize the EXP gain, have one of your trainees complete solo skill challenges so they get the EXP on successes. You should also try your best to pick up the Supply Crate or Lunchbox when it shows up in battles, but it's not a super big deal if you skip them to end a battle more quickly.

Once you get to Area II, you'll have the choice of Cliffs or Stream. Always pick Cliffs. There are less ranged attackers there and the maps are a lot more friendly with needing less skills for skill checks. At Area III, stick with Cliffs.

Your trainees should hit level 2 by the end of the first adventure, depending on your luck. Go back and swap out Bolt for Call to Action. Now, instead of blocking every turn, your trainees should be using Call to Action to boost your trainers' dice.

It will take around 6-7 adventures to get to level 4, giving you 3 Denim Traveler's Packs per trainee. These packs can be sold for a pretty penny on the Open Marketplace, or you can open them up for a flat 50 notes and 1 essence fragment per bag.

This may not seem like a lot for the effort, but the bags won't be all you're getting. You'll also be getting clothing, collectables, decor, and resources that you can sell on the Open Marketplace or Quick Sales. With clothing, decor, and collectables quick selling at 25 notes each, you'll come out of each run with a couple hundred extra notes on top of the bags.

Note: this method doesn't require 2 trainers, however I prefer a 2 trainer/2 trainee party rather than 1 trainer/3 trainee party. Having 2 trainers gives us consistent access to Harmony (your trainees may not have relationships with your trainers, and I don't recommend giving them relationships via Scribe items solely for training) and allows us to one-turn two-enemy packs and can help if we whiff a one-enemy pack on the first attack. The Shadow of Nestor fight will also be a bit easier with two strong attackers.

friends Speedrunning Adventuring Runs friends

For this method you will want a team of four level 4 cats that have high Strength and Agility, the more dice the better. This method involves going through Adventuring from start to finish as fast as possible.

The exact make-up of your team does not matter too much as long as it hits the following points:
  1. The level 4 class doesn't matter, though if you're starting from scratch, I recommend going to level 2 in Fighter then switching to Thief to max it out.
  2. Every cat has either Climb or Swim — never both, and never mix-and-match within the team.
  3. Every cat has Bite, Hide, and Backstab.
Here are some other points regarding speed:
  1. I recommend a team of primarily Fighters and then maybe Thieves in order to get melee bonuses. Ranger is fine if you have a ton of bolts to use, however be careful about positioning on the map.
  2. Luncheon is very important for speed. The recipes to utilize will be any that increase Strength and Movement Tiles. Spiced Catrot Soup is the best recipe for this, with Crispy Fried Fowl as an alternative.
  3. Having a Scout on your team to improve turn initiative isn't a bad idea if your cats have a low base Perception.
  4. Taking advantage of Group Harmony will allow you to take down enemies much more quickly, so making your entire team Friends, Best Friends, or Partners will allow you to deal more damage. You will be capped out at four hearts harmony at level 4. Not every cat needs to have four hearts of harmony because the enemies have low base hit points, so don't worry about that if you don't have the resources or desire to make everyone a tier 2 relationship.
  5. Don't give your cats drastically different battle skills, and I wouldn't bother with Call to Action if it's going to be skill #4. This is for the autopilot/muscle memory aspect of nyooming through Adventuring as you might hit the wrong skill and slow yourself down a bit.
Put on a movie, show, or other form of media and allow autopilot to take you through Adventuring. Along the way you will collect many collectibles, clothing, decor, and bonuses from Shadow of Nestor. Here are the Shadow of Nestor items to sell:
  1. Business Cards fetch a pretty penny on the Open Marketplace and the best drop to get from Shadow of Nestor. I always recommend selling these unless you're after a specific cat.
  2. Heart of the Woods Map and Unnerving Statues can be quicksold for 25 notes each.
  3. Treasure Chests and Enchanted Treasure Chests have notes inside of them (and the latter has 1 essence fragment as well).
I don't recommend selling the other drops, as they are for Alchemy and we don't know how many we will need for recipes.

Remember to take breaks!

scribe Evaluating Different Moneymaking Methods scribe

This is not a definitive guide to moneymaking, but is an analysis based on my experience and observation. Every playstyle is different, so different moneymaking methods will suit different people.

Each method will have its analysis and end with a pros & cons list.

Remember that these are not the only ways to make money. These are just the biggest methods.

OSHAapproved A note regarding sales: remember that inquiring about someone's listings, including asking about trades, holds, or haggling, is against the Community Guidelines unless the user has explicitly stated they are fine with these sorts of messages.

winking Cat Sales
This is a moneymaking method everyone will eventually run into due to the finite amount of cat space available per player. There are a couple of ways to go about this, but for the most part cat sales will end up being passive, making it very accessible to people.

Cats are acquired through a few avenues, with the best method being through accepting cats that Nestor gives you. With a guaranteed cat every seven days from Nestor, you will be getting around 50 cats per year at a minimum from Nestor, assuming that you log in every day and visit him. You will very likely be getting a cat before your guaranteed cat day, so expect more than 50 as you play the game.

At first, you may be tempted to hold onto every single cat you get, and this isn't a bad thing: cats are good for gathering power and every cat helps you get extra Daily Scenarios. Once you start running out of village space or having a few identical cats, you may be inclined to start selling them.

The issue: cat prices are extremely variable. Some cats go for as low as 200 notes, and some have gone for five- or six-digit prices. I have a Cat Sales Census to try and answer the "how much is my cat worth" question, but even then, it's a difficult question to answer outside of saying "whatever someone will pay for them." The census is also voluntary and doesn't have a ton of data to go off of. There are too many variables that contribute to cat pricing that it isn't something you can pinpoint very well.

Cats can be sold on the Cat Recruitment Board or through Private Trades with other players. The Cat Recruitment Board will take a 5% tax from every sold listing, but it is convenient as you don't need to maintain a sales post in the forums or a group chat.

If a cat doesn't get sold, you can always send them to live in the City through their profile. Sending a cat to the city will give you a packaged gift that contains 150 notes, 1 essence fragment, 1 postcard collectible, and a handful of resources.

Business Cards are a way to farm cat generation. Unfortunately, like most luck-of-the-draw randomizer mechanics on petsites, the consumable item will almost always be worth more than what you get from it. Business Cards do have the potential of giving you a cat with the Inverse whitespotting group, but otherwise every cat you get from it can also be gotten from Nestor, meaning more often than not you will probably get a more 'generic' cat that doesn't sell for much. But, if you're lucky to get a cat with a combination of rare traits, it may very well net you more money than several Business Cards would.

yes Passive and accessible; you don't need to do much to make money from selling cats. Farmable thanks to Business Cards, if you enjoy Adventuring.
no Cat pricing is hard, and some common cats will be hard to sell.

babybean1 Breeding Cats to Sell
Another avenue in the cat-sales method is breeding cats to sell. This is an extremely slow method as cats can only leave your village if they are an Adolescent or Adult, meaning that every cat you breed is stuck in your village for at least 90 days (gestation period + days it takes to become an Adolescent).

However, it can also be a good way of making notes: it's easier to breed for desirable traits than to acquire them on a random cat. Valuable genes such as the Point allele, albinism, or a solid pattern (especially solid black cats with no visible whitespotting, also known as a "void") are easier to mass produce with breeding cats than hoping Nestor or a Business Card gets you one.

There is, however, a catch to this: some users prefer a "no family" aesthetic, which bred cats can never satisfy, as they always have family on their profile. This means that even if you do breed a valuable void, it won't get you as much money as it would if it were from Nestor (as an adult) or a Business Card.

Given that you don't need to do anything crazy to get beans in your village, this method can be good if you're a player who checks in a few times a week, as you don't need to do anything for the beans to grow. Cats can start a family of beans through Daily Scenarios, which also means you don't need to spend anything to get them (but you can if you want to!).

If you do decide to focus on breeding cats to sell, remembering that beans take about 90 days to leave your village is important. You may opt to do cat reservations, but some people may lose interest in the cat by the time they grow up or no longer play the game when the cat is ready to move to their new home.

Another important factor to remember is that you won't be the only cat breeder; there are others doing the same thing as you. Supply may outweigh demand, which may make your cats worth less by the time they reach adolescence.

yes Cats with valuable traits can get you many notes. This is another passive moneymaking method.
no Very slow method as you can't actually sell the cat for 90 days. Can't appeal to the "no family" aesthetic.

basket Selling Items
The longer you play the game, even as a casual player checking in a few times a month, the more items you will end up accumulating. You may even have more items than you know what to do with.

Thankfully, items you go after in your day jobs may not be the same as other players, and therefore there will usually be a market for the things you aren't using. Some items, such as some Luncheon ingredients, may not have the same demand as other items, but Quick Selling is always an option.

Like with selling cats, you can sell items on the Open Marketplace, but they come with a 5% tax. Selling through Private Trades to avoid the tax is always an option.

Item value can range from as little as 1 note to several thousand notes, depending on what it is. Clothing, especially Nestor-exclusive clothing (such as Smoke, Glitterdust, etc.), may get you much more.

yes Passive and accessible, as items accumulate as you play.
no Not the best source of notes as the amount you get can be very small. Some items (such as rare clothing) will get you a lot more.

crossbow Adventuring
Adventuring has a couple of avenues to make money. I have two methods outlined in the above post, so I won't go too in-depth here about the specifics.

Adventuring can be a very fast way of making money, however this means it requires a lot of time, effort, and energy. If you are a casual player, this likely won't be for you. But, on the bright side, there's no time-limit for anything, meaning that even if you only go ham on Adventuring once a month, you can still end your session with a ton of notes.

Another method I didn't outline in my above post is the opportunity to train other players' cats. If you run out of cats to level up and find you don't need a team of four cats to rush through Adventuring, this could technically be a source of passive income if you're in Adventuring anyway.

yes Can make you a ton of notes very quickly.
no Requires a lot of time and energy, making it not very casual-friendly.

artist Running an Art Shop
If you're an artist, you may enjoy taking commissions. Luckily, petsite communities have a good amount of users that enjoy buying art of their pets! Opening and running an art shop can be extremely fruitful, especially if you're a new player who doesn't have a ton of resources to your name yet.

The issue, of course, is pricing. Notes don't have a USD equivalent right now, making pricing very hard, especially when keeping in mind just how many notes people have to spend at any time.

You may opt to do a PWYW shop if you're not sure how much your art is worth, but people can take advantage of you that way, even if they don't mean to. Many people value notes and art differently, which may lead to a discrepancy in what you get.

yes Accessible, especially as a new player.
no Pricing too high may mean you get no customers, but pricing too low may mean you undercharge. Can be hard to hit that "happy medium."

craftscat Creating Custom Content
Custom Content is entirely an essence fragments avenue of making money. You can create clothing, decor, and buildings that can become items on the game, which you then sell for fragments through your Artisan's Shop. With customization being a huge part of PCE, players will always be looking to buy new items for their cats and scenery.

This is, of course, another art-creation method, which means non-artists may not enjoy it. Furthermore, you need to pay currency in order to submit the item to the game. This can be circumvented with sponsoring, which is trading the submission fee from another player for the submitter's copy of the item in exchange (some artists will charge the submission fee + a few extra fragments instead). However, if you can't get anyone to sponsor your item, you'll need to pay for the fee yourself, which means you need fragments on-hand.

Additionally, even after the item is in the game, players still need to purchase it from your shop. Custom Content has a 25 or 50 fragment tax to produce the copy of the item (the buyer pays this, not the artist) so you don't get the full price that your item is set at.

yes Passive, as after the item is accepted, you don't need to do anything after stocking it in your shop.
no Non-artists may not enjoy this. Needs money up-front to submit items.

@Nae Hello! This guide is wonderful. happy I'd like to suggest that the confirmed fact that essence fragments will be priced at 100 for $10 USD be included in the post about EFs, since it seems like a reasonably important thing to know.
