@Squid Oh I do understand that the economy is not really "in balance" and I think I might have misrepresented my concern by mentioning the part about the value changing. I have absolutely no investment in the cost of items right now, they clearly have no stable value even just from moment to moment, beyond updates. So honestly you can disregard that factor if you want to and my concern would be all the same.
Typically speaking, it doesn't seem like there'll be any reason to replace entire items with new ones, in particular with visual/aesthetic items. Balancing stats and the changes that come with tweaking mechanics are not really a concern. But this update was entirely and exclusively cosmetic, which means that there were players who went from having an item that's only job was to look a certain way, and the next day it didn't. I don't have a problem with that either- to be clear. Like you said, its beta, things change. Buuuut I do feel like in terms of player-experience, even if this is just a one time thing, this was a really unexpected, unconventional, and a bit unfair circumstance that probably no more than a few people have found themselves in.
Like, I understand what you're saying about the economics and values. This makes sense. But in terms of something like being able to look at an item that only has a function of "Appeal to you visually" and a player decided at that time, it did not appeal to them, so they wanted to sell it. When you change that to an item that looks entirely different, players never got to make that choice? Especially when it was such a big change and the nature of the item is so different now. It just seems like, this one time, it wasn't really fair to rob the players who listed one item of their ability to decide if they would retain ownership of it?
Value is one thing, but something like "Do I want this for what it looks like?" is a question that I feel like people shouldn't have to answer one time and then the next day have the answer to that question apply to something they didn't ever...see? Again, to be clear, this didn't happen to me. But I saw one user in the thread mention it and I imagine it happened to several people. I know the intent here was never to hurt players or rob them of agency which is why I feel like, especially if they're bound to be a common item anyway, it wouldn't do much harm allowing people to answer that "Do I want this" question for themselves if its possible to do so.
