The Not-Cat Gene Sequencer
Sheet Link: Click Me!
Do you check cat genetics often? Do you tire of pasting a genetic code template and then slowly deleting the inaccurate bits as you fill out your real cat's genes? Do you wish you could just check a few boxes and select some dropdowns to get your cat's full genetic code? Then this sheet is for you!
Instructions:
In the menu bar, select File...Make a Copy to get started. Add your cat's genes into the sequencer by selecting their attributes through the dropdowns or checkboxes. The checkboxes are yes or no questions; fill them if the answer is yes, and leave them blank otherwise. When you're finished, simply copy the contents of the cell labeled as the genetic code. This code is fully text and can paste into the forums without issue.
For the white markings section: you still need to test if No White cats are NN versus Y/N/0. The dropdown for white markings determines the white value of the cat, so even if your cat shows as No White, if it has a hidden white value, you put the hidden markings in. The question for showing No White is asking if it has the NN gene; cats that show no white can still be Y/N or Y/Y if they have a white value of 0.
In case of errors:
You shouldn't have any issues permanently breaking the sheet unless you try to mess with the page labeled Sequencer Refs, which is left visible for the curious. If you deleted or added something that messed everything up, simply make a new copy of the sheet. Note that if you try to make impossible cats, you'll end up with errors. For example, North Wind Snow cats or Null Watercolors don't exist. You'll only make these guys if you change to a type of cat that can have those patterns and then change back. For example, you'll only make the Null Watercolor if you switch the cat to be a Tradewind, then make it Watercolor, then switch it back to Null. To fix errors from making impossible cats, change the offending option to a viable option for that cat type. If you've gotten errors without making impossible cats or touching the coded cells, shoot me a message on this thread! (Pings are welcome.)
Utility:
If you sequence your cats' genes by checking them against "reference cats" in the sandbox, this sheet will help you note down what you find. Note that this sequencer assumes you have basic knowledge of how not-cat genes work and that you can determine what recessives your cat is carrying. You won't need to check what specific S/P/M/T genes correspond to which patterns, or what white pattern has what number. Simply select the pattern your cat has in the dropdown and the numbers will be processed for you! The reference cats that I use are also included above each cell that I use them for. All credit for gathering these cats goes to the author of the guide linked below.
