Was it the best plan to put the library--full of books and scrolls and all the delicate apothecary equipment--right on the lake-shore where it gets constantly hit by storms? No. But the aesthetics of it won out, despite Nightingale's skepticism, and the roof hardly ever leaks anymore, anyway. Not since Amber fixed all the holes.
Shale is almost constantly by the lake, fishing or otherwise staring at his own reflection. He likes to practice his monologues on the shore, and is totally reasonable (and not at all grumpy) when interrupted mid-dramatic speech. Nightingale lingers around the library even when ae isn't using the apothecary tools, because it's an important building and someone has to protect it. And there's something about the lake... something that ae can't quite place...
