I’m currently trying to make outfits for all my starter cats, currently only Destiny and my custom Poppy are finished. I’ve been looking at other people’s villages for a while and am always intimidated by their beautiful cats. So I want to dress up my cats as well.

So I’d like some tips on designing outfits for my cats as well as getting the money to do so. I make most of my money through adventuring but I only make 300-500 notes per adventure and that’s not enough to afford the nestor exclusives which I really want. So if you have a good way to make money that’s also helpful.
Feel free to message me, I may just take a while to respond because I only check this site like once a day.

Hi! Here’s a few miscellaneous tips! happy

- If there’s one or two outfit pieces you know for sure you want on your cat, experiment in the sandbox! That way you know what you’re looking for before committing to purchases.

- This Thread has a plethora of dress up ‘hacks’ from other users! (My favorite is using the left/right flower pieces as earrings!)

- As for making notes.. If you don’t have any valuable cats you want to part with (those can make anywhere from 1k - 50k+ per cat).
Lore / Art shops if you have the time and energy can be a good source of passive income! Additionally, selling resources on the open marketboard can get you some notes too depending on what it is.

I also like to check the cat sales and item sales forum hubs to see if anyone is looking for something I’m willing to sell!

Admittedly, half of my outfits are stuck in sandbox (your friend) limbo and the idea board for now too. But something that came into mind was establishing themes/motif, trying to match them with their appearance and/or personality flames

Truffle, whom I consider my only complete outfit so far has lots of greens, yellows, browns, and a tiny black. I thought it would be cute to apply that nature theme into aer's partners; Cookie Dough and Rocky Road (and eventually children).

Banana, who's outfit is near completion. He's very mean and a bully to the others, including looking down and mocking them so his outfit must be royally flashy and loud compared to everyone else.

Also, yes, establishing an item/art/lore/cat shop is very good for earning notes. Make sure to check out the cat sales and item sales forums too. Also, there's a very good guide for moneymaking

you can get expensive items later! for now, hotw "bark" items are extremely cheap, look nice, and have high coverage:notes ratios. you can use them to make the other items you have look better while you wait to get more cash. cheer
pings + friendly dms + unsolicited offers etc are fine cheer

i tend to go by broad shapes and colors than what the actual clothing items are supposed to be, half of the time i like having a general idea of what i want the cat to look like regardless of what's available and then go through what is available and try to get as close as i can.

for example, this outfit started with the general idea of "shady wizard's robe"

and for this one i just generally tried to make her look kind of like a dog... or maybe just a very ambiguous quadrupedal mammal

other than these more sweeping ideas, i try to keep an eye out for where i can add interesting bits of contrast and focal points to the outfit, for example the light blue highlights on this outfit, mostly just going off the fact that their name is lightning

or the starfruit pendant here, this outfit is generally meant to be sort of summer-y, even if starfruits are winter exclusives lol

i also like to try to use layering in interesting ways, the black feather scarf on this outfit makes it almost look like there's a more pronounced shadow under xir head

and here i've used a few pretty different pieces of clothing to create a repeating pattern of white bands

i also tend to use particles fairly sparingly as i feel like they create visual clutter when almost every cat in a village has one... but that's mostly just a personal preference, i know for a fact that isn't universal. i usually use them to add a general bit of contrast in an outfit that's looking otherwise pretty homogeneous.

i hope any of this is helpful? i have some pretty specific tastes and i like when outfits get kind of out there more often than not, a lot of the outfits i've made that feel a bit more mediocre to me are probably the ones that are more traditionally good looking.

in terms of money- i get most of my money from clothing, funnily enough. i sell on the open market once a week (when i'm more active, there were a few months there where i wasn't selling anything) and build up cash. but also i play at a relatively slow pace, so that may be a bit slow for you. if you're worried about selling anything you need, i'd stick to selling any duplicates you have, and make sure to plan out outfits beforehand (or be fine with missing a few pieces before you can finish it off)

good luck! outfits are one of my favorite parts of this game, hope you have fun dressing up your kitties :)

a fun trick for colors is layering pendants on top of shawls/mantles!

usually i slap on whatever i have in my inventory until i make something i like, and sometimes i put on one or 2 pieces and use them as inspo, so if i think of stuff that look good with it which i don't have yet i'll make a note to get it

when planning outfits in sandbox i tend to go for stuff that's easier to get, like craftables, peppa's stuff, or some gathering clothes

also i totally recommend this clothing database, it can be super helpful! like for example if i want to dress a notcat in yellow but don't have any ideas in mind i can just use the sheet to filter for yellow clothing and by which part of the body it goes on among other things
