Anyway.
There are a few PCE spreadsheets I've seen on the forums; however, none of them really met my needs. So I decided to make my own. I present my baby, my child, the product of a whole bunch of time spent at the gym pretending to be exercising but instead working on a spreadsheet: YAPCES, or Yet Another Pixel Cat's End Spreadsheet.
YAPCES has three main tabs and two (so far) supplementary tabs. Additionally, it is significantly easier to fill in than any previous spreadsheet that I have found; it can be filled entirely from the Village Manager tab.
How to Use
- Go to your Village Manager.
- Copy from the start of the name of your first cat to the end of the adventuring class of your last cat.
- Paste that into cell A1 of the sheet labeled PASTE.
The sheet will automatically populate. It's that easy!
Main Tab 1: Cats
This is what most people will probably be interested in. This takes an ID (which is automatically filled from what you pasted in) and from that, autofills a kinda ridiculous amount of information, with which you can do whatever you want.
Main Tab 2: Jobs
This tab will show the current level for each job, as well as what the not-cat's skill in that job would be. It also shows the role effects in every specialty role except Mayor.
Main Tab 3: Genes
This was originally another spreadsheet but when I started YAPCES I merged it in. This one does not autofill, as I made it as a tool to practice gening my not-cats. Genes can be manually entered, and the sheet will autofill the phenotype associated with that genetic string so that you can check your work.
Note that while this is accurate for every not-cat I have gened so far, there are something like 40,000 phenotypes and 8 million genotypes possible, so there is a chance some genetic string is going to give the wrong phenotype and break everything. If this happens let me know and I'll fix it.
Supplementary Tab 1: Statistics
The first of the supplementary tabs has a ton of statistics about your not-cats. This will record counts for basically anything that can be easily counted, and a few things that can't. Additionally, it will track which specialty roles are filled, the "average" cat in your village, and how many cats with hidden/recessive genes you have.
Supplementary Tab 2: Birthdays
The second supplementary tab tracks not-cat birthdays, sorted by season and date. I have some code lying around somewhere that tracks the IRL date of a not-cat's next birthday but it's still a work-in-progress, enough so that I don't want to release any of it (yet).
Additional Info:
- The data all lives in a secret hidden sheet. Because of this, you can freely hardcode sections that are not expected to change, like appearance data.
- The drawback to the "paste everything in from Village Manager and let the sheet handle the rest" method is that if you add a lot of cats at once, the sheet may take a minute to update. That being said, I tested it by adding like fifty cats in at once and it took less than a minute to get everything in, so it's definitely still faster than the sheets that make you paste everything in manually. (Also more fun.)
- The spreadsheet comes with data from a few of my not-cats already entered. This is simply to make it easier to see how the spreadsheet is used, and can all be safely deleted.
Acknowledgements:
- Remus (#2) for making the original Cat Census sheet. I referenced it quite a bit, especially formatting-wise, because it is really just a gorgeous and super-easy-to-read spreadsheet.
- gay (#32) for making the Cat Info Parser sheet. I used this one for ages before deciding to make my own.
- My friends for providing more not-cats to test with (and also putting up with my spreadsheet-related shenanigans.)
