Welcome to Zinnia's recipes, a recipe-book/cooking show ran by Zinnia, and her wonderful co-host Wasabi!


Often, these recipes are based off of dishes made by humankind, but with a nice little not-cat twist!

This thread is a massive WIP as of 6/14/23!
All art in this thread (unless stated otherwise) is made by me. Comments and corrections are always welcome, and I will link shortcuts to entries below. I'm not really sure if these can be used in anything, but you're free to take the recipes here for lore or writings.

HEAT AND ☉

The unit of measurement used for baking and frying is ☉. ☉ is pronounced as "soon"; drag out the u in the word Sun.

Translation is somewhat straightforward; 100 degrees Fahrenheit is 1☉. 150 degrees Fahrenheit is 1.50☉. 50 degrees Fahrenheit is .50☉. Alternatively, 23 Celsius is .75☉. 1☉ is 38 degrees Celsius.

☉ = Fahrenheit but with a tuxedo on, basically.

Translates to a teaspoon, alternatively 5 ml

SMALL-HEAP
Translates to a tablespoon. Alternatively 15 ml

Translates to 1/4 of a cup. Alternatively 60 ml

CHEESY STUFFED POTATOES
- Plant Based Meal -

A meal heavily inspired by human culture. It's very heavy with mini-pig cheese, and incorporates dried fireflies into its filling.

INGREDIENTS - - -
Six earthy-potatoes, washed thoroughly
Seven cuts of squirrel saddle, crumbled and cronchy
Six small-heaps of unsalted butter, softened
One Heap of Sour Cream
Two Big-Heaps and a Heap of Mini-Pig Cheese, shredded
Two bean-heaps of Crumbly Salt
One bean-heap of black-pepper, dried and crushed
One Lake-Scallion
Three Fireflies; spiced, dried and crumbled\

OPTIONALLY: One bean-heap of crushed Sunset-Starfruit Seeds

INGREDIENT NOTES - - -


"Don't listen to what other cooks tell you. Any other salt other than Crumbly Salt is AWFUL."

"I've heard that you can use the skin of a Not-Goose as replacement for squirrel saddle. But Not-Geese are really hard to wrangle down alone, so watch out."

"You could probably replace squirrel saddle for anything that has an abundance of fat in it."

"Oh, and squirrel saddle means the meat on the back of a squirrel, or just squirrel meat in general."


STEPS - - -

[1.] Prepare your ingredients, and prepare your oven to 3.75☉.
Chop your lake-scallion thinly into small circles. Afterwards, fry your squirrel saddle until it is crispy, and then crumble it into small chunks.

[2.] Prick your potatoes.
Your claws might work if they're sharp enough, but I'd just grab a pokey utensil otherwise. This step allows your potatoes to cook evenly inside, and prevents any implosion from happening.
("It's kind of like if you try to boil rocks. Don't do that, by the way. They explode.")

[3.] Coat them up in two small-heaps of butter.
Save the rest of the butter for later. This step is to insure that the potatoes are nicely fried and cronchy.

[4.] Put a Not-Sticky cooking sheet under a cooking rack. Put your potatoes on the rack, and then fry them in your oven for fifty minutes.

[5.] Take them out and let them cool.
Don't burn your paws, use oven mitts.

[6.] Cut them in half lengthwise, and then scoop out the flesh into a mixing bowl.
This step sounds a bit violent without context; you're scooping out the inside of the potato and then putting it aside for a filling. Leave a small bit so there is still some flesh left on the sides of the potato.

[7.] Put in your butter, sour cream, saddle, half of your black pepper, salt, cheese, and fireflies. Beat it until it's fluffier than a longhair.
This will be your filling!
("Remember that you've got complete freedom to add new ingredients. The world's your oyster.")

[8.] Put your filling into the empty potatoes. Then, sprinkle them down with the rest of your black pepper.
This would also be the time to put in your Starfruit-seed spice.

[7.] Cook them again! 3.75☉ but for 20-25 minutes this time, or until they're golden and poofy.

[8.] Garnish the potatoes with your lake-scallions, and you're finished!

- Plant Based... Thing -

"HEY. What is up. It's been a while. My big, best-est best-friend Daylily gave me a rock-based recipe to try out for my next entry. Unfortunately, my oven was simply not strong enough to handle his recipe, and it got obliterated by the rocks."
"I wasn't at my house when it exploded, so I'm PERFECTLY fine. I keep finding soot in my kitchen though. I'm still waiting for Dracaena to finish my new (stronger) oven. She's real busy. So, I'm taking a break from recipes for a while.

"Instead, I've decided to go outside for a while, and eat things I find off of the ground. Wasabi kept trying to stop me, something about poisoning and sickness or whatever, but I don't care. I'm too strong for SAFETY to stop me. Here's the first entry, written by Wasabi. Happy Leaf-day."


Purrice, named by Zinnia of Houseplant Village, is a fruiting cane plant. Not much is known of the plant. It was recently discovered as of Autumn 29th, Year 8 near the border between Tigerlily Meadow and Nestor's Wood.
The cane grows straight upward from the ground, only growing leaves towards the top and shedding them after having significant growth upwards.
Flowers have been observed to begin budding at each node, but it's unconfirmed as to when the plant blossoms. The leaves are wide and waxy. The leaf stalk splits the leaf into definitive halves, all the way down to the tip. The plant is dark green in color, and the flesh is pale green.

The growth seems to slow down to an almost full stop mid autumn. During this time, a large sprout grows at the end of the top of the plant. At Autumn's fullest, the sprout will unfold, revealing bean-like fruits. The fruits are colorful, typically red, orange, or yellow, and are in a bean-like shape.
The fruits, unlike actual legumes, do not have embryos, and grow in pairs. The pairs can be easily split into two.

Examined by Zinnia, the fruits have a very strong, fruity flavor. They have little moisture and are chewy. Despite this, it has been noted that the fruits seem to puff up and become visibly brighter in direct sunlight. The reason for this is not known.
After ingesting Purrice and being medically examined, Zinnia commented that she could, "lift six houses on one arm."

It is not recommended that you eat Purrice, as its properties aren't understood. Please don't eat random things off the ground, either...
