Social Scenarios

Every day, you can head to the Social Scenarios tab under Daily Activities to go through a number of quick little choose-your-own-adventure style events. You're allowed one interaction for every 3 not-cats in your village.

Interactions will contain a scenario prompt with three different possible responses for you to choose from: two by default, and one secret option that only appears if certain personality conditions are met. Every response has a unique result, which sometimes includes receiving items or being given the opportunity to start a friendship or relationship.

The starting pool is 125 different scenarios split into 8 categories, with 3 responses each, giving you up to 375 possible happenings.

The interactions a not-cat gets, along with who that not-cat chooses to do said interactions with, are all based on their personality traits, the personality traits of the not-cats around them, and how well they know their fellow village members.

The three traits primarily used for this are the following:

Benevolence - Influences whether cats are more likely to choose affectionate, positive interactions or reckless, negative ones.

Energy - Influences whether cats are more likely to choose active, athletic activities or more calm, quiet ones.

Extroversion - Influences whether cats are more likely to choose social activities or solo activities.

Some personality archetypes also have additional modifiers that influence how they interact with other not-cats. These are as follows:

- Pleasant cats never initiate negative activities.
- Mysterious cats do not initiate social activities with cats they don't already know.
- Protective cats do not initiate negative activities with friends and family.
- Rebellious cats do not initiate positive activities with strangers.
- Commanding cats have a decreased chance at forming friendships and relationships.
- Jovial cats have an increased chance at forming friendships and relationships.
- Dramatic cats have an increased chance at forming rivalries.
- Gentle cats have a decreased chance at forming rivalries.

Relationships

One of the possible results of a social scenario is that the two cats will request to form a relationship of some kind. If you do not want the cats to become friends, partners, etc., you do not have to approve the result. This allows you to maintain some control over how your cats interact with each other, while still allowing you to let relationships to happen naturally.

A list of all relationships is as follows:

Friends - Little pals your not-cat will prefer to interact with over acquaintances.

Best Friends - Your not-cat's closest friends, who they will want to interact with very much! (Not-cats must be friends before they can become best friends).

Partners - Your not-cat's closest friend, but with a chance for (if the two are compatible winds) starting a family of children (beans), or adopting a family if not. Partners will prompt to start a family on occasion during Daily Scenarios.

Rivals - Not-cats your not-cat just doesn't vibe with and feels a particular sense of hatred (affectionate) for.

While, right now, the only way to get relationships is for them to naturally occur in Daily Scenarios, soon there will be items that allow you to manually set them to make your headcanons come to life.

What to look for in testing?

This is an incredibly complex feature that may need some balancing. There are a huge number of percentages for how often cats prefer to interact with certain other relationship levels, and how often they do certain activities. Try to keep an eye out for things that seem off.

On the same page as the balancing, how often your cats request relationship changes is also worth evaluating. Do they go from acquaintance to partner too fast? Or too slowly?

There is also a great "pronounenator" behind the scenes that changes the verbs and pronouns to match each cat. This sometimes glitches out (or was mistyped on the specific interaction), so look out for grammatical issues. I already know that there are some issues where this sometimes doesn't kick in like it should, so know that that's a thing.

There are also some flow/formatting issues with the transitions between stages of a scenario that I hope to work out.

New Catmojis

The following catmojis have been added:

Other Changes

- Recipes for Watermeowlon and Starfruit Jelly have been modified slightly. I may modify some additional recipes over the next bit of time to try to get the percentages to more accurately match how common each item is.

What's Next?

I will be wrapping up things that go along with this update next:

- The Library building will be able to be constructed, along with unlocking the Scribe occupation.

- At the scribe, you will be able to unlock letters and items that allow you to manually set relationships between cats (in case you don't want to wait for it to happen naturally). You will also find an item that reveals your not-cat's full genetic sequence.

- There will be a place in the Sandbox where you can preview potential beans of your cats. If you are very clever and strategic, it is plausible you may be able to reverse engineer your cat's genetic string here without using the item mentioned previously, so if that sounds fun go wild.

- There will be a very rare chance that an orphaned/abandoned kitten or bean may appear at the meeting grounds, which your existing not-cats may choose to adopt.

- On the dev plan, there was a note about leadership jobs in the village. This is still planned, but is being de-prioritized and will be revisited at the end of alpha or beginning of beta.

After this section, I will move towards the next alpha phase. I will be doing a little skipping around here, bringing some of the city/shop-related items in before I start working on adventuring. This is because I'd like to get some item sinks in and a currency rolling so that I can start thinking about how to price special shop items and adventuring item values. Here's what I plan to do:

- You can send your cats traveling to temporarily remove them from your village to make space. These traveling cats have a small chance each day to send letters back with gifts.

- You can permanently remove cats from the game by sending them to live in the city. They will leave behind a small gift when they go. This will be irreversible.

- You will be able to sell spare materials in the city under quick sales, and then use that money to buy materials you might be short on from the General Store for a mark-up.

Bug Fixes

- Snow ants are no longer escaping on the gathering page.

- Gathering no longer prompts you to use items you don't have enough of when you have items for the first slot but not the second.

- Fixed issue where cats weren't leveling beyond level 2.

- Fixed hidden coloration on albino coloring displaying where it shouldn't.

- Indoor jobs no longer display as having a negative modifier during bad weather, even though they are not affected by weather.

- Specifications for high and low personality in meeting grounds synced with the requirements for jobs (AKA 8 and above and 3 and below).

- Building/decor placement are no longer sometimes off in scene sandbox.

- Flipping items is no longer broken in scene sandbox.

- Spaces can now actually be typed in the text fields in scene sandbox. The key code for moving decor was interfering with this.

- Layering in scenes no longer displays backwards / incorrectly.

- Scene purge button for moderators now appropriately targets all items and cats in the scene.

- Reordering cats with multiple pages is no longer a total disaster.

- Scene sandbox now allows up to 12 decorations and 4 buildings, matching scenes.

- Scene and cat sandboxes now support reordering of items.
