Nothing fancy, just gonna dump my PCE art in here from time to time and give some insights into my thought process. (fair warning: cats are not my strong suit, so expect some stuff to look wonky while I try to find my footing drawing these guys)

Uhhh let's start with these two, shall we?

I thought it'd be fun to try and bang out some proper designs for my two main cats, since their rivalry is the core of my village. I'm a big believer in trying to make my characters differ by shape so it's easy to tell who's who even when not in colour.



In terms of the actual designs, I picked up some lion aspects for Naphates and tried focusing on making his design a bit rounder/smoother. He's a big soft boy despite the stern exterior, and I thought a big soft mane would help get that across. I have a fun thought that if I were to ever give him a human design, he'd be pretty scruffy, maybe have the start of a scraggly mustache, so I gave him some facial markings to mimic that thought.

Altreus on the other hand, I focused more on making him a bit more angular- not quite sharp, but definitely more lean. Since he's got ties to the Moon and Water, his markings follow a lot of those aspects, especially in the moon on his chest and paw, and the various teardrop shapes that pop up around his body. In terms of his actual lynxpoint pattern, I thought it'd be fun to have the grey on this legs resemble long fingerless gloves, while keeping his stripes fairly thick and spread out.

Clothing-wise, I was originally going to try to go for something site-accurate to the both of them,,, and then the need to draw pretty shiny metal bits kicked in. At first it was just going to be the clasps on Altreus' glittersilks and cloak, and Naph's sunglasses, but then things spiraled out of control (as they tend to do when shiny things are involved in my art...)

Meet Gremlin.

He's not got much in the way of lore yet tbh. Just a weird child who wandered into Requiem's Edge and decided to play tough, when in reality he's a real sweetheart. Goth through and through, though. He's got a crow companion named Nevermore who gave him all his feathers, but alas, I don't draw birds well.

Gremlin's got a rose theme to his markings bc I wanted to lean into his whole, putting on a thorny exterior thing. That and I just wanted to draw a not-cat with roses, and imo goth aesthetics go hand-in-hand with roses (the other alternative was spiders and I refuse.)

So it's been a bit, lol. I got really into drawing dragons for a bit, so I wasn't doing much in the way of PCE art.
...and then this boy came to me in a dream.


Long story short, I dreamt PCE had a massive update, one of which introduced an angel not-cat variant, which, I mean, they're basically ascended cats now that I think about it. Either way this guy ended up in my village and I fell in love immediately. I might've based my entire personality around him, I'm Not Sure. Regardless, I remembered him enough that I had to draw him pretty much immediately after waking up.

I might try to get him on-site, but that might (definitely) require some custom clothing to pull off. And also a void ("oh but he looks like a Mink-" yes but also no, he's a void in my heart and also I'd draw minks, so differently compared to him shghdgd)


Anyway. Bucky beloved. I'm going to be so annoying about him from now on.

I was planning on working on a different pair of not-cats today, but while I was glancing through my village I saw Crowpath and kinda,,, had to draw it and its boyfriend.


In terms of design, there's not too much to say actually? Crowpath I wanted to take after its fathers, so I gave it Azel's more angular/lithe body, and Ritrovalo's size/leg markings (if you squint you can see a star on Crow's shoulder that it inherited from Ritro). It also gets the yellow ring in its eyes from Ritro, while the rich blues and narrowed shape come from Azel.

Sago on the other hand, I went in knowing two things: He may not be a cloudpoint but he sure as sugar is getting fawn spots, and he's fluffy. That's it. I ended up tweaking his base colours in the end bc the on-site Red isn't,,, red enough for me. I also wasn't too sure on how long his tail should be, so I made him a funny little bobcat, for the sillies. As for his eye,,, well originally I thought yellow might work, but I wanted a bit of contrast and to bring in some cool tones into the palette, so both the eye and the flower got the Teal treatment (originally the flower was a dark reddish-black. I didn't like it.) Sago gets a cream-coloured lynxpoint as well because I actually wanted to see his white markings against his body without having to squint.

Okay so like lore-wise I've already got them figured out. Sago's got a lot of shenanigans around that flower on his face, and Crow's a vain guy who so far has gotten by only on pretty privilege and quite a lot of charisma. Sagosight tends to keep to himself, and ends up apprenticing under Ritrovalo (the town doctor and also Crowpath's father.) This comes around just in time for Crow to be invited out on an adventure, where things go Horribly Wrong.

Sago ends up taking care of Crow while it heals from the ordeal, and eventually steps in when Crow's mental health slips really bad (because Crow's self-esteem and sense of self-worth pretty much hinged on their looks and the approval of the people around them.) As they grow closer it's revealed that Crow's actually a pretty shy and introverted not-cat hiding behind a false air of confidence to keep up appearances. Sago ends up breaking down these walls though and eventually Crow feels comfy enough to be itself around Sago. It's very cute and I love them very much.
