Are the currently any plans to implement a forum search? I've found myself coming to the forums multiple times looking for specific information and realizing that there isn't a search function.

I appreciate that people have taken the time to compile formatted lists for important information and that the forums are well organized, but the more populated the forums get the more difficult it will be to find the answers to simple questions without going through the relevant board page by page.

I think this is already applicable in the dev corner and help boards- I wanted to see if this question/suggestion had already been addressed and I'm still not sure if it has been so this might even be a duplicate post!

You can use search engines for this - type site:https://www.pixelcatsend.com/forum and then whatever you want to search for afterwards. I used it just now to nab a few threads asking about/for a forum search:

It would definitely be nice to have an onsite search though!

For those who are curious as to why this isn't currently a thing:

The forums are old, very old, they're the first thing I ever coded in PHP. The big barrier to search is that the original posts and replies to post are not stored in the same way in the same place, which means both of those things can't be searched at once and would need to have separate searches (which would be confusing and unhelpful to use). This is why your own forum history has two pages, one for replies and one for original posts.

In order to change this, I'd need to completely rewrite the forums from the ground up and migrate all of the existing posts and replies to a new database structure.

And then, at the end of all of that, the forum search you'd end up with wouldn't be any better than typing site:https://www.pixelcatsend.com/forum into your browser. It might even be worse because search engines use all kinds of additional metrics I'm not keeping track of locally (like page traffic).

It would be nice to get to eventually, and the forums could definitely use some attention, but it is a huge project that is out of scope in the immediate future and is unlikely to happen before the end of beta.

When the secret societies / guilds come out, this will then need to be a thing because they will have subforums that are not public. So my best guess is that the forum revamp will come with that post-beta project.
