Heroic Redwood Saves Fountain from Fate Worse Than Death
Editor's Note: Redwood is known to be well... a little reticent at times. Please forgive me if I sound harsh at all, I just try to prompt him slightly. And I tried my hardest to get Fountain to speak a little more, but forgive xem if xe doesn't speak often. And as a quick trigger warning for our more concerned readers, this interview
does mention death.
Redwood, why don't we start with you, can you tell the readers why you wanted to do an interview today? R
edwood lounges back in his chair, seemingly relaxed despite the freezing rain bucketing down on the three cats seated around the table, drenching them all. Um. Uh. Why doesn't Fountain start?
I'm sorry Redwood, but you did ask me about the interview. Fountain is just here for. Well. We'll get to that part of your tale soon enough. Um, okay. Well... I was just gathering some fish, and freshwater mussels and uh. Lakeweed and well. I, uh. Well it.
He clears his throat. I saw Fountain crossing the path, going to get uh. What was it again, Fountain?
Fountain, would you mind filling in that detail? Xe squeaks and shifts in xyr chair. Th-thyme.
Xe swallows. And mixed seeds.
R: Well xe was crossing a bridge. And I saw it snap, and xe fell into the water. Without thinking, I dropped the things in my paws on the bank, and dove into the water. A friend in need is. Well. You know. Anyways, the water was freezing, despite it being unseasonably warm for autumn.
Here he grows rather animated, as he begins talking about the weather. Perhaps the Cloudnap Mountains are rather cold regardless. And I brought xem out, but perhaps I was too late. Fountain had gone still in my arms, and despite my best efforts, I could not revive xem.
Fountain, it's your turn. What did you see? Worrying at xyr lip, xe begins, I was. Dead. I was outside my body, and staring at its brown-ish hues. I kept thinking, I wonder what Cloud will say. Perhaps that was wrong of me.
I just want to hear what happened, anything you felt is correct. Okay. Well yes. I didn't want Cloud to see me like this. And then I realized where I was destined for, if I didn't return.
And where was that? I... I don't know. I can't remember. It was just... wrong. And so I pushed back into my body, harder than I've ever done anything before, and I woke up again.
Xe shivers. I was so cold. So so cold.
...
This is all very interesting. Thank you Fountain and Redwood. Fountain. Stay safe okay? None of us want to see you hurt.
Editor's Note: I think they did pretty well, all things considered! I realized that I would never get the aftermath from Fountain, who was already shaking at having to talk for so long, so I sought out Cloud, who was relieved to hear that Fountain was safe and sound. Xe explained to me that Fountain had come back the same and seemed to have little else to say of the matter. Safe to say that the whole village is relieved over this, and will be glad to get the full understanding of how dangerous the rapids surrounding our homes can be. Just a quick reminder to please keep your beans indoors during the Bank-Swells, and when rain is pouring like it is today. It is dangerous for them to be play-adventuring outdoors in such conditions. Stay warm, and stay dry, dear readers, and I'll see you the next time you choose the Mackerelian as your newspaper of choice.

Here Redwood and Fountain experience a traumatic event together, but from which, Fountain seems unchanged. Redwood however, cannot stop thinking about this event, and does eventually vow to learn more about what happened to Fountain. For now though, all is right with this little village, and life continues to slowly tick on.
