Genuinely just curious - it seems like a lot of people really really want cats with no family, but I'm having trouble seeing what difference it makes! I guess they're rarer? But even cats with family aren't super easy to get on PCE.

If you prefer cats without family, I'd love to hear why! Are you here for the challenge? or .. is the box just too big

So this isn't my first pet website, but many pet websites with breeding mechanics tend toward valuing randomly-generated pets with no family as being monetarily worth more than pets with family listed. I think the idea of rarity is probably one reason for this--as a pet website ages, it becomes more rare for certain kinds of pets to generate all on their own without family members and far more common for them to be available for purchase with a list of family names attached. When pets with rare traits become easily obtainable, no-family pets are often held up as the rarity standard.

Some people prefer no-family pets for cosmetic reasons--what if there's a name on the family list that you don't like, or what if, like you said, you dislike the length of the box on the pet's page?

For me, I'm picky about family names. In theory I would happily scoop up a not-cat that has pre-existing family, but... in practice, I can't guarantee that a name I dislike won't either already be on the list or be added later down the line. A not-cat would have to have some rare trait that I really, REALLY wanted in order for me to give up control of naming family members via purchasing or obtaining a cat that already has family. After all, all those other cats on the family list aren't mine-- they belong to someone else! I can't change their names.

I see! I guess I found it more surprising on PCE seeing as, for example on sites like Flight Rising or Final Outpost, pets are a dime a dozen so I get why people take to curating their collections to be G1 only, but here, breeding cats is a long time commitment and the cats are relatively sparse. I'm personally having enough trouble just getting my dream cats, family or not

I mostly don't care that much either but I can back SpiritOwl up on the pet reason. I have a cat I recruited in memory of my old dog, and it would've felt kinda weird if that cat had kids

Oh yeah, that makes perfect sense haha. I can also imagine having a fancat of, [random pop culture reference] say, spider-man. But Spiderman has two parents named Hotdog Water and a kid named Jimbo. Would be a bit weird.

For me personally, I love love love name themes. I will usually change a cat's name to something funky to suit my village if that makes sense? If I get a cat from a village that seems to have a name theme I feel awkward about either keeping the name theme going but also changing the name of that cat.



Fruit Punch is an odd exception in my village. While it has pre existing family, it's family seemed to have a name theme of two words and I rolled with it by keeping the two word name. I just shortened it to "Punchy" for my own remembering purposes, and plus, it looks so angry so Punchy on its own isn't too far off

Another good example is Juggler and Poet's family!




I just love name themes I dunno For me it's like...I don't want my whole village to have the same name theme because I kinda wanna go out there with those names. Personally, if a cat has family and the family doesn't have a name theme I'm more likely to snatch that cat and continue with a big family! I like seeing big family trees

Bronze and AJ have a pretty big family tree! It's pretty cool to see what they're grandkids and other family members get named

If you ever want big family cats just let me know, I got quite a few and soon enough I'm gonna bean them, and then there will be more of their kiddos that need a home! I love big family cats!

I honestly prefer when I get a cat with family, it gives me lore~ though I don’t really like if the cat already has kits/partners.

i personally find it very amusing that one of my ace attorney fancats has a parent that is a genshin impact fancat but i understand that it isn’t something everyone will be fine with!!
