I got back into adventuring recently and was delighted by the small qol changes since last time i did some runs (not having all the confirmation boxes is amazing omg)

So i was thinking back at how adventuring was when it debuted and wanted to make a list to share and marvel at. I probably don't remember everything so feel free to add your own "back in my days" *shakes cane* additions

- confirmation boxes everywhere (still exists but togglable)
- could walk through enemies without sneak check, but enemies could as well so no meatshielding with bulky cats.
- no crates, aka no bolts through adventuring and no bonus exp. (Grinding levels is noticeably faster now!!)
- doubleshot used to use two bolts. Sob. I'm so glad realism went out the window for that one.
- defeated enemies became obstacles. No way to stand on them. They sometimes had undefeated enemies hide behind them and in a corner, making softlocking a possibility.
- did not have the bar with the enemies' info under the adventuring grid.

Thank you Squiiiiid, all the little changes make everything so much better adventuring's come a long way already!

Even worse older thing:

- The "hide" skill used to make it so you couldn't be targeted at all. The trapdoor spiders would do it over and over and there was nothing you could do but sit there and wait for them to come out.

pre-supply crates i was always having to periodically craft a new batch of bolts as i constantly ran out..... now i have nearly 2000!! thanks crates

Also!! Expanding part of what you said, you couldn’t stand on top of defeated creatures! You had to wait for them to come attack you or shoot at them if they were standing in the corner or something behind a defeated not-cat or monster

OH GOD YEAH.
when i joined, adventuring has been around for only a month or so, and it used to be so much more painful. every now and then id be all "back in my day" to my friends who joined later and tell them what it was like. in addition to what you mentioned id also like to add:

- you couldn't turn animations off. so after EVERY move you'd very painstakingly watch your notcats slowly slide across the board. this drove me and my friends crazy and we'd complain about it constantly

-no cards or any other boss drop. you'd go through hotw and defeat son only to get like sticks

- you couldn't set text speed, and the default speed was VERY slow

adventuring is much better and more rewarding now, it's become way more enjoyable to me even if i don't do it much anymore. ppl who joined in feb 2023 window and after dont know how good they have it /lh
(i do kinda miss no sneak checks tho but i get why it was added)

... Omg Squid you have some terrifying ideas and concepts. (Could be fun for a boss? As a free "buff yourself now!" turn. But on a mob enemy... )

@Willow Right? Right?! I still have the reflex to use Sprint with my fastest cat to yeet them into a corner with nearby enemies so they can't get in there. I call it my "corner denial" strat

Just remembered, enemies used to have the same background as cats.

... Multiple times, i took an enemy for a cat and ignored it or just sat next to it
