Chai and Anise were siblings back on Earth. The two of them had managed to avoid being separated through all the troubles that stray cats face -- long enough that they were able to follow Cynthia through Nestor's gate.
While Chai turned her attention outwards, keeping her watchful eyes on the dangers of Earth, Anise did the opposite. Feeling helpless about the things Chai dealt with, she spent her time working to make their shelters feel like someplace happy to go home to, instead of the cold, damp places they often were at heart.
She collected pretty stones and lost items with bright colors, a hobby that would not have been possible without the other strays supporting her physical needs. Finding herself more capable with tools on not-Earth, she continues trying to make their lives brighter -- in ways she wasn't able to before. Since everything seems brighter here, it feels only fitting she try to match herself up to this new place.
