✧Babycakes has always been a healer. From their time on Earth, they spent the majority of the time patching up their former clowder. Their intelligence and dexterity with their paws made them something of a demi-god in the eyes of their old group. Babycakes didn't mind this much, of course, but it could be incredibly isolating. . . ✧

Babycakes is fairly grouchy from a lack of sleep most days. They are responsible for the health of Brightstone, its travelling cats, and other passerbys who stop by the village's inn. Their office in the village lodge is a mess of files, medical texts and herbal almanacs. Despite being grouchy and a bit standoff-ish, Babycakes does care about the residents quite deeply and would do just about anything for a sick or hurt not-cat. They also often listen to the troubles of younger not-cats who come by their offices. Growing up can be tough, even when surrounded by other not-cats.

Babycakes usually has a few herbs of varying types on their person. Mostly when they forget to drop off deliveries from the gatherers back at their office.

✧SECRET PLUSHIE. . .✧

Babycakes doesn't sleep often, but when they do, it is usually curled up around their favorite plushie. They insist it has no name, and is purely because the clothiers are behind on making pillows, but they treat it carefully.

✧WATERMEOWLON CANDIES✧

Babycakes always keeps a pouch of candies on them to hand out to younger kittens. They say it's just for checkups, to help them associate their clinic (and Babycakes) with positive things rather than scary, but it isn't uncommon to see them handing one out to a kitten having a hard day.


✧ADVENTURES✧

Ontop of their doctorly duties, Babycakes is a proficient combat medic! They have an emergency travel kit for when they are needed to join the adventuring rotation. Fortunately, that seldom happens.


✧STORY✧

Babycakes lived with a clowder that roamed the streets of a large, sprawling city. There were always wounds to be patched up and cleaned, upset tummies to be treated, and much more. They didn't mind this work, it kept them from being put on the much more brutal hunting and guarding duties, but as a result they were venerated as something more than a cat. . .

✧i. DEPARTURE✧

Many seasons after Babycakes had grown used to their role, the clowder found themselves cornered by animal control. A guard had dozed off during their watch, and a truck arrived to collect the cats. In the chaos, Babycakes fled the group, rushing through alley after alley until the wailing of the clowder was far behind them. . .
When they finally slowed, then stopped, the air wasn't heavy with the smell of trash and traffic. The sky wasn't broken apart by towering buildings. The ground beneath their aching pads was soft... They were in a forest, and for a moment Babycakes wondered if they had been unfortunate enough to die before they saw the portal closing behind them. With nothing better to do, Babycakes began to wander, and hope they were not alone.

✧ii. BRIGHTSTONE✧

After a night of travelling through strange woods, Babycakes found themselves face to face with the most terrifying creature they had lain eyes on. A giant moose, eyes floating around him, stared back down at them. He introduced himself as "Nestor" and invited Babycakes to ride on his back until they found a village they could settle in. Babycakes was... very confused, and still more than a little frightened. But when a creature larger than you tells you what you'll do, you do it. and Babycakes fell asleep that night nestled into Nestor's fur.
The next morning, they awoke in a clearing, tucked into a makeshift nest of pelts and blankets. Nestor was speaking to a pair of cats who had entered the grove, both nodding animatedly as Nestor turned his head back to them. Babycakes was.. less than thrilled to have two strangers bounding up to them shortly after they woke up, but they seemed nice enough, and insisted that they come back with them to a place called 'Brightstone'. With nothing better to do, Babycakes agreed.

✧iii. FRIENDS✧

The first week or so was uneasy, but Babycakes eventually found their groove in their new home. The adventuring party needed patching up, and after familiarizing themselves with the various plants and tools available to them, found they could heal even better than before! It helped that the residents of Brightstone were much friendlier with them than their clowder back on Earth. It only took a few days for Babycakes to be visited by neighbors wanting to spend time with them or otherwise rope them into antics. It was a welcome change of pace. They befriended the adopted son of Myrtle and Barley, Mango, and became something of an "Auntie" to his kittens.
And for the first time in a long time, Babycakes felt like they were truly living.

✧iv. FAMILY✧

Their first winter in the town, two Not-Cats entered Babycakes' life that would change it forever. The first, a pair of cats sent to serve as Brightstone's permanent Nobility. Or more accurately, the maid who accompanied the Lady of Castle Rock. Thirteen, who insists her name is meant to be a jab at the fact the number is 'unlucky', caught Babycakes' attention in a way none of the other residents did. In the evenings, after Eloquence dismissed her for the night, Thirteen and Babycakes would meet up to explore the village and spend time together. For now, Babycakes is content with Thirteen as a friend, though someday something more may be in the cards.
The second cat came with a knock at their door just after sunrise. Babycakes opened it to be greeted by Afflon, Rainbow, and a tiny, shivering, kitten. Nestor had charged them with caring for the young cat, and they wanted Babycakes to look after her whilst they talked to Vegas about finding a family for her to live with. Whilst checking over the kitten -Who Babycakes learned was named Carmilla- they wondered if having her around would be good for them. It would certainly encourage them to take breaks to spend time with their new ward... So when Vegas returned with Myrtle and Barley, who were more than happy to take her in, Babycakes said they would raise her instead.

✧While still getting to know the kitten, Babycakes does know one thing: They absolutely adore her. Carmilla has been a positive influence on their life (even if she can be a little clingy at times), and the two can often be seen curled up together taking a nap. Babycakes has even gifted her a similar plushie to the one they.. definitely just use as a pillow. While it may take some time before Carmilla calls her mom, Babycakes is content knowing that she's safe, happy, and healthy.✧

✧Babycakes' best friend in the whole village (if not Not-Earth as a whole). Blue was the one who helped them get their footing when they first arrived, gave them the limited collection of herbal almanacs available at the Echoing Library, and would eventually connect them with Eloquence when she arrived to help work on her encyclopedia. They volunteer occasionally to help Blue with the library and managing the scribes, and xe serve as a babysitter for Carmilla when Babycakes is busy but school isn't in session.✧

✧BEST FRIEND / MENTEE✧

✧Mango was a rather rambunctious kitten, which meant Mango spent a lot of time in Babycakes' office when he was little. While always chiding him for his mishaps, Babycakes did grow to like his company, and eventually hired him on as their assistant outside of the office in return for teaching him some medical knowledge. Mango handles a lot of medicinal deliveries and appointment schedulings for Babycakes so they can focus on treating the cats in their office. They also spend time with Mango's family when they can, citing that maybe his kittens will be better behaved if their Auntie Babycakes was there to tell them why acting like their father was a bad idea. ✧

✧Babycakes' beloved, Thirteen is the only cat they actively listen to and take advice from. After her help in raising Carmilla, Babycakes proposed to her, which Thirteen accepted! They then decided to start their own family to give the beans to Eloquence, who was expecting a lone bean. . .✧

✧Enaldie is a gentle soul who rushed into a relationship with aer ex-partner, Parge, and now has two kittens to raise in a slightly strained co-parenting situation. Babycakes does what they can to help their friend, who has become something of a two-way confidant for both aerself and Babycakes. Having Carmilla around makes it easy, since Babycakes can simply let Primrose and Larkspur have an impromptu playdate if Enaldie needs an afternoon.✧

✧They aren't as close as Babycakes is with their other friends in the village. Sometimes they head to the lake to have some space to themselves, and Afflon will join them to quietly fish. Sometimes they talk, most times they don't. Babycakes appreciates his company all the same.✧

✧Both being local leadership of a sort, Vegas' policies prior to the arrival of the Ladies of Castle Rock have driven Babycakes up the wall! Vegas believes heavily in a strong, rigid guard rotation, and won't take no for an answer. Babycakes thinks such a thing is stupid in the relative safety of Nestor's Woods, and just wastes valuable medical supplies on not-cats goofing around. The rest of Brightstone quickly learned to seat them away from eachother at Luncheons unless they want the entire meal to be to the soundtrack of their bickering.✧

✧UNFRIENDLY AQUAINTANCE✧

✧Similarly to Vegas, Babycakes and Dusksong butt heads over ideology. Dusksong is a frequent visitor to Babycakes' clinic, and insists /every/ time that how Babycakes is treating aer is wrong, and should be more like aer cleric back on Earth. Babycakes tells aer that if ae has a problem with how Babycakes treats aer wounds, ae can go find one of these clerics aerself. Dusksong quiets down at this point, but the two still don't like to be around one another.✧
