They sharpened their hatred
With their bodies burning,
And its edge grew keen.
A former house cat from Earth who was always scolded and punished for acting out, Halvatt escaped from his human's home to create a better life for himself, with his sister Ren in tow. Being a house cat for most of his life, he was not well accustomed to the stray life, and he was deeply unhappy that his sister had tagged along. After all, she had always been the favourite cat of the humans: she was the docile, unassuming plaything that was lavished with attention and love, while the best thing the humans would do to him was ignore his presence.
However, his sister, in all her naivety, never seemed to pick up on his disdain for her. He was actually glad, then, when a random cat from the countryside offered to take her with him, to permanently remove her from Halvatt's life. But she wanted Halvatt to come along with them too.
Needless to say, Halvatt refused. But though he would never admit it, the seed of doubt had been planted in his mind. What if things could be better for him? Surely, his life wouldn't be confined to its current insignificance. And so, he resolved to follow Ren and the travelling cat, Aidan, telling himself that he merely wished to see Ren suffer from her foolish decision.
While he was following Ren and Aidan through another city, he saw them vanish into a strange portal they had come across. While he was wary that they didn't return, he became curious, not knowing if this portal was part of the journey they were making to their countryside destination. And so he followed, tumbling his way into Not-Earth and (unfortunately for him) reuniting with his sister once more.
Reluctantly, in the face of this unknown world that he did not understand, he teamed up with Ren and Aidan to create a base at the lakeside. At Ren's insistence, this base was named Hearttown.
Even as Hearttown grew, Halvatt stayed distant from the other cats, especially his sister and Aidan. He saw himself as part of the group only as a means to survive, and nothing more. And the other cats were fine with that too, off-put by his cynical, rude demeanour. It wasn't until a travelling cat named Suzansa chanced upon Hearttown and settled down there, that he ended up opening up to someone else: and loathe as he is to admit, he began to feel that it would perhaps suit his purposes to stay at Hearttown for a little longer, if only because the settlement would surely fail without his guidance and expertise...
- Halvatt has an affinity for fire-based magic that is very uncontrollable and dependent on his emotions, often hurting him in the process of casting.
- He is very picky with food and often eats alone, both because he is asocial and to hide what he views as a humiliating shortcoming of his.
- His number one talent is avoiding situations where he has to swim without alerting others to the fact that he doesn't know how to swim at all.
