Sophie was one of the founding members of Oakshallow. She's an outspoken and opinionated citizen whose willingness to speak her mind often lands her in trouble.

Sophie's fight with Howl culminated in The Incident, in which Oaksinger arbitrated a trial by combat at Freerun. Howl lost and agreed to help out more around Oakshallow, but no action was taken to ensure he wouldn't just continue collecting dust jars. Sophie and some like-minded friends began to suspect that Oaksinger had been politically motivated when judging The Incident. About half the population of Oakshallow began meeting in Embering rather than Hallowhome, coming to the conclusion that Oaksinger wasn't the leader they needed. The conflict ended with the election of Herea as mayor.
