I saw the 'tentative' label on the surrogate parent option, and so I wanted to propose a different concept for consideration:
an option to ask Nestor to go out looking for some babies. This would allow cats who cannot have biological children to get more than 1 baby at a time.

I'm thinking Nestor would be unavailable during this period, so you won't get your regular daily gifts (How many days should be left up to someone with more knowledge of game balance, but I imagine you would at Least miss out on one of the guaranteed cat drops).
After this time is up, Nestor presents you with a litter of beans (or kittens) of roughly the same age, roughly equal to the size of a not-cat litter, but randomized instead of genetically similar. And they would become siblings!

Possibly this would also need a cooldown in-between, that goes for the whole village? Again, I'm sure Squid would know how to balance it better than I can

I'm sure more tweaking and changes would have to happen to make this feasible, but I wanted to share in case it could spark an idea Also I just love the idea of Nestor taking a while off their standard routine duties to go looking for homeless kittens to add to a brand new Sibling Bundle ...

This would be super useful for lore and it sounds super cute as well.

This could be cute, though it could only be available for a few weeks per season. Bean generation is based on the prior season, so after Day 28 of the season, beans can't actually be given by Nestor until the next season.

Love this idea! I personally prefer this over the proposed surrogate system.

Though maybe it could also be possible for the children to be genetically similar in some cases? Like, there's a chance Nestor finds a whole litter of orphaned babies? Just for the storytelling potential. :]

I'm not sure that I'd prefer this over a surrogacy system where you get to choose the biological parents and bean results. Maybe in addition to it?

i'm also not sure how i feel about this - i feel like visiting nestor every day is an important part of the lore, so i'm not sure about him being unavailable, but i'm also not sure about how else to balance getting multiple kitties at once.

@chocolate that's fair! He could still be there, though (probably would be, for ease of coding I would guess?) but just have a line like, I have no present today as I am still looking. Or something. But yeah if it doesn't fit with Squid's vision of what Nestor is to the story, then this won't be how it works and that's okay ^^

@nae I know that's how it works right now - I was assuming that this system would most likely run on a different code than the regular cat gifts. Buuuuuut I don't know coding and I don't know how much rewriting it would require .. it's up to Squid if something like this would be worth the effort

@Sallin that's fair!! I simply wanted to suggest it, seeing as the surrogate system is listed as 'tentative', which made me think maybe Squid was considering not making it at all. So I wanted to propose an alternative to no option for adoptive litters at all
The surrogate system would bring some gameplay changes to how cat breeding works (biological parents being rented to people who then adopt the kittens into another family springs to mind), which is up to someone smarter than me to figure out if is a good or a bad or even a neutral thing haha. But if it turns out to be a change that wouldn't benefit the game that Squid is hoping to make, then maybe this could be another option
