i wanted to know how everyone felt about the topic!
sometimes when you buy a cat, they already have some friendships or partners from the village they came from. would it be rude to reset these relationships..?

sometimes i feel tempted to wipe the relationships of a few of my cats.. i assume it's fine for most people since they already sold the cat.. but who knows!

I don't think so! the site rules say you can't control anything after a cat is sold, and generally people seem to feel alright about that rule as far as I've seen.

I don't pay tons of attention to friendships and partnerships that have left my village unless I've spoken to someone specifically about that. you already have to be prepared for the cat to possibly get citied, so something like the removal of a relationship seems much less saddening!

I'd feel completely fine about that, personally. it's giving them a fresh start and shows that you care about them enough to spend resources on them so they fit your needs! I think it's more of a show of appreciation than one of uncaringness.

don't see why it would be. your cat now and you can do whatever you want with them

personally i like to keep relationships from past villages bc i just think it's cute for them to have friends from different villages, and it like a part of their life

i think this should be okay, they sold the cat for a reason! if you're really worried, you can just ask the previous owner

it's no problem and I've done it myself as well a few times. I don't think I've ever noticed someone else do it to me yet, and I kept them for months before removing them. If I did keep them around I wouldn't think too hard on it, sometimes people just do things

My cats commentate on their relationships in-character, which requires me to have an idea of who the other cat is, which gets weird knowing I'm just making up lore for a stranger's cat

And also for utility reasons I tend to wipe best friends/partners since they're limited count...

its definitely fine to remove old relationships! if the previous owner wanted the list unchanged, they should have either kept or citied the cat! its yours now, do whatever you want :) no need to ask!
and honestly i can't see any reason someone would be mad about this anyways it would be silly

My only opinion is that you should consider keeping friends and rivals because having cross-village relationships is fun, but you’re free to do whatever you please.

I'd personally get sad if someone wiped the unlimited relationships (friends and rivals) of a former cat of mine, just because it seems unnecessary. I can understand wanting a fresh slate with the limited slots, but not wanting your cat to keep in touch with any old friends (or rivals) at all ..?

Then again, I don't sell cats I've had for more than a few days at all because I get super attached to their little stories. So it's not like this has been a problem for me at all.

The only time I've done this, I asked the previous owner so that they had the chance to set them to friends and even then it was only because I wanted that cat for a breeding pair.

I don't think I had to ask . . . . hmmm. I could've left that relationship and potentially expanded the other cat's family tree . . . . hmmmm.

My village's lore is self-contained, so yes, I wipe the relationships they have to outside cats when I get them. If the original person wanted the relationships to be intact, they shouldn't have sold the cat, or tried to sell them in a thread specifically for people who wanted inter-village relationships. By selling the cat, they have given up the ability to choose anything about them.
