I've seen this done on other forums and imo it makes them feel more engaging, both when posting and when reading - the ability to add a catmoji to a post to signify that you've read and liked it without making a reply post.

A lot of the time I hesitate to reply when all I have to say is "thanks!" or "agreed" etc because it feels kind of spammy, but not replying at all seems like I'm not letting the poster know I liked it.

It could possibly be difficult moderation wise and/or cause clutter to allow all catmojis as post reactions (I'm not sure, just pondering), so another option would just be to have either a single one that functions a bit like a "like" on facebook/twitter/etc, or a small set of them. It may also be worth considering having only the poster be notified when their post is reacted to rather than having it publicly seen, to avoid potential competitive/envy type feelings about some posts getting more reaction catmojis than others if that is a concern.

I am personally not a fan of this.

I like the social aspect of a forum, and I would prefer people take the time to post a reply rather than click a “Like” or “React” button on my threads. It feels very impersonal. :c

I would like this, it feels spammy to reply to things with just "yes" "agree" etc. and sometimes I don't have the social energy to come up with something better. Also, as someone who is just not very conversational to begin with, I appreciate having a little way to show support/acknowledgement/etc without having to actually say things.

I think it should be one "like" catmoji if it were implemented. I wouldn't want any notifications for it. That would discourage me from posting on the forums at all because of potential notif spam.

I think something like this could maybe be useful to gauge the popularity of suggestions here in dev corner...
But I also have to agree that it might undermine the personal feel of the community in other forums.

I do feel the lack of energy or confidence to reply in a post sometimes, especially if I don't bring much to the table but I guess if I really can't bring myself to reply there's no shame in not replying?

I think the outcome here should be based on how the community develops. If it remains small and tight-knit, then I think something to this degree wouldn't be that bad. Otherwise, I would probably only allow a small selection of reactions, such as these emojis below:



Nothing that can be interpreted as negative. I also would probably at least allow a toggle for getting notifications for if people react to your post, if not omit such an alert outright.

Personally I don't mind whether or not this gets implemented, especially since it doesn't seem there's any public post count stat so simply saying "Thanks!" as a majority of your posts wouldn't be that bad.

I definitely think that if it were implimented there should be a toggle on whether or not to get notifs for it. I actually was going to include that in my original post but forgot hahaha

I understand the position that it might make things feel more impersonal. It's hard to say whether such a feature would be used like this overall, but personally it wouldn't cause me to reply to less threads - it would only be a net increase in interaction, as I'd be using it on posts where I'd not be making a reply in any case as the reply would only be 1-2 words.

Edited to add: in the instance that it was chosen to make the number of likes/reactions only visible to the poster, how I see this working with the notif toggle is that if you have notifs for it turned off but want to see if there have been reactions on your post you would just go to the post and it would display a number (or numbers if there were multiple possible reaction catmojis) and a tooltip or dropdown menu or something of the like that would list the specific users who had reacted.

I'd like this, but as someone else said, only if there is a single reaction option that serves as an all-purpose positive response, encompassing gratitude, support, agreement, encouragement, etc.

i think this would be nice in the dev corner/for suggestions? on another forum im on all suggestions have a poll under the first post so people can show support easily so thats another option. or the ability to set up a thread with a poll in the first post?

personally i don't like these kind of features because it makes me check back on the post to see if it got any likes/hearts/reactions & to see if people Enjoy my Posting or agree with me. which in itself isn't bad per se but it is when you end up checking 50 times a day because of it lmao
