Second time this has happened. Not sure what's causing it, don't think I hit rapidly, but both times it was in a 4x Rubble Sprite encounter and one of the Rubble Sprites used Hiss.

Targets a non-existent entity (or a rude ghost who won't say hello), which has x1 withered die to defend itself with and uses the admittedly amazing pronoun ?their?. Notably, no cat receives the condition from having failed the check. I'm calling ?them? Ghosts Georg now.

First time happened on October 15th, second time happened just now (October 28th).

Ghosts Georg doesn't say hello. Uses x1 withered dice to defend self from Hiss.

Ghosts Georg still being rude. Once again using x1 withered dice to defend self from Hiss in a 4x Rubble Sprite encounter.

Updating here because I've encountered it again in a slightly varied way. On another pack of 4 Rubble Sprites.

Notably, this seems to happen when the particular Rubble Sprite in question cannot target one of my cats, even if it were to move.

Slightly less notably, this was actually from a Rubble Sprites Bolt ability this time, rather than Hiss, so text alterations could be due to this or recent changes in the pronoun machine. I have still never encountered this glitch with any other enemies or differing number of Rubble Sprites.

This time the ghost is.. defeated?? Seems to have 1 HP.
(at least I shall continue to assume this is a glitch and not an intended ghastly abomination lurking behind me)

Ohhhhh very good catch here. I haven't been able to figure out why the ghost attack thing was still occurring for ages and this sounds like a good point in the right direction.

backstory:

the two fainted cats are both fainted from an earlier battle, not the current one. so they have no turns. the living cats have a strategy: the bicolor cat is my scout, and rallies the watercolor tabby, who uses bite on a closeby enemy.

however, i don't believe... either of them had targeted rubble sprite B, nor could they have - it was too far!

this rubble sprite targeted an unnamed entity - either one of the fainted cats, or .. something else?? - and defeats it when it fails its one-die roll. lookright

neither of my living cats took damage, as far as i can tell. so that's cool! it doesnt seem to be impacting me, no errors thrown. but for me, the largest mystery is that.... i dont know, are either of my alive cats even targetable from that distant corner? so maybe it's not targeting those.

anyway. that's all.

Interesting that it's a different pack type, though still the Rubble Sprite causing issue.

Since the Rubble Sprite in question in that last screenshot can't target cats in it either, here's my current guess at the issue, since it is only arising in the fourth area with Rubble Sprites:

Fourth area maps are the most obstacle-dense area
This creates a situation where an enemy can't target any cat
Rubble Sprites' particularly aggressive battle AI (potentially others) has a coding error, preventing them from properly choosing to Block or Do Nothing, and run into a defaulting error when attempting to complete their turn

While I've seen a Rubble Sprite use Block, I'm fairly certain I've never seen it Do Nothing overwhelmed

(Though understandable, as enemies usually do this when failing a terrain movement check. That places my bet on not properly choosing to use Block when no enemy can be reached and targeted.)

thanks for merging my post here - i hadn't seen this one! i'll keep my eye out to see if any rock sprites i encounter use Do Nothing to see if i can disprove gathouria's theory (though it seems solid).

Good luck, I've actually tried this very specific thing before, albeit it was to test whether they could use Claw! Try cornering them with your cats to a far corner of the map, maybe by the lower right stump

Since due to the animation changes, this bug actually causes the game to freeze / not unhide the continue button, I've been trying to figure out what's going on, but I'm a bit stumped so far.

Unfortunately it's really difficult for me to get this to happen, so I've embedded the AI debugging information into the html. If you see this and use inspect element to get unstuck per this thread, it would be helpful if you could also grab this debugging information. It shows up like this:
