One of my adventuring cats got defeated, and the adventuring guide said that they’d be fine after a nap. Do you have to end the adventure in order for them to get their health back?

Yep! Cats who are defeated on the current adventure cannot be "revived" during the same adventure. You'll need to end your adventure for them to be ready to go again.
