I am a new player, so I'm sorry if this has been asked before?

I've been having an issue during adventuring in which, due to the frequency of misses and low rolls (my not-cats are level three now, and it hasn't gotten much better), I run out of bolts quite frequently. This results in having to chase down enemies to claw them, which makes battles tedious and not much fun. I think that the crossbow bolts, and chests in general, should drop more frequently. Unless I'm doing some thing wrong?

You’re a new player so you don’t have a craftscat, who can craft bolts

Rangers aren’t necessarily designed for new players, but adventuring is still accessible (though tedious) through fighters.

Basically, you’re new and things are slow, that’s how the game is sort of designed. Things will speed up / get easier the longer you stick with it

Ooh, didn't know those were craftable ! That helps quite a bit.

I've been on a lot of petsites. The ones that hooked me didn't have the mindset of, "it's tedious for new players because it has to be like that" - I am an adult who sadly doesn't have a lot of time to spend on grind-y stuff ;;

However, I do plan to stick with this one ! The adventuring system is already very fun and interesting, and I am optimistic that it will be less of a hassle for new players as the site grows/develops.

PCE's philosophy is to be a casual not-a-full-time-job game, so your optimism will take you far! It's extremely easy to build resources and accumulate them just by doing Gather Resources every day. It will take a while to get to that point where you start having a good surplus (it's about 3-4 months depending on how you manage things), but it will happen. Soon you will be drowning in clothes and decor as well clothier

There were a number of new-player-friendly changes made to Adventuring over the summer, so rest assured, fresh new players are kept in mind!

@neonbuck

If it helps, at the moment with cats only being able to reach level 4 and go to the Heart of the Woods, the metagame at this point means that some of the best team structures to go for when you're starting out are Fighter Squads. 3-4 cats set to Fighter, with possibly 1 cat as a Scout or Bard for the Call to Action/Rally abilities and the initiative /bravery boosts respectively. Having a cat set to Fighter gives that cat an advantage on Melee attacks by improving dice rolls! So you often do a lot more damage.

I can see some of your team are already level 3! It's probably a good idea to continue until you hit the level 4 cap, as your dice values improve then (base attacks go from 1 damage to 2 damage, and critical hits go from 2 damage to 3 base damage). After that, I'd recommend levelling everyone to at least level 1 in the Fighter Class to give them Bite instead of Scratch.

You can mix and match abilities from all classes!

Then up to level 3 in Thief, for Hide + Backstab, and then your choice of 4th move from whichever class you find is interesting.

Once you've got a solid team up to level 4, you can start experimenting with different team compositions. I now run a team that's 1 Scout and 3 Rangers, and I now gain more bolts back from Adventuring than I use up!

I'd also recommend that you encourage your Adventuring party to be friends with each other! There are guides for Scenarios for which options give you a chance at a Relationship+ prompt, or items you can craft once the Library has been made/buy from other users, to manually assign a relationship.

This is because of the Harmony bonus! Each heart of Harmony a cat has with its teammates adds another point of damage to a critical hit.

Friendship and most Family relationships (parent-child, siblings, etc.) grant 1 heart each.
Important Relationships, such as Partners, Best Friends, and Littermates grant 2 hearts each.
Rivals grant a withered heart, which boosts hits on withered dice, but at the moment it's hard to have dice be withered!

Harmony is currently capped to level as of right now, but will eventually max out to 6 hearts per cat. It's very useful!

Tl;dr: Your Adventuring Team is still finding its feet, and you've likely not unlocked a large swathe of the game yet!
