Situated in the very Heart of Nestor’s Wood, Dog Bus is a true surprise to any who happen to stumble upon it in their expeditions. Although, it is rather difficult to find, as the surrounding area is thick with trees and a heavy, impermeable mist. It is common for those exploring the area to feel as if they’re being watched, as well as a general discomfort. Runestones litter every dark corner of the deep woods, and explorers have reported hearing strange, guttural sounds coming from the mist. Sightings of mysterious beasts have also been spotted in addition to these sounds.
Cradled in the center of a meadow, deep within the forest, untouched by mist, lies Dog Bus. The mist seems to avoid this particular place, and instead skirts around it, as if waiting for those who live there to step into its hazy embrace. Runestones line the outside of the meadow, acting as wards or some kind of protection for those who live inside it. From what exactly, though, only those who reside here know.
Dog Bus is quite literally a bus from Earth, and is painted to look like a dog by the not-cats who make it their home. It doesn’t seem to be able to move, and likely no longer has a working engine, but that doesn’t stop the residents of the large bus from making the most of it. It is typically kept decorated and well-lit, as well as the meadow that surrounds it. A lot of love has clearly gone into this place, and the cats seem to enjoy making it as homey as possible.
The endless mist that creeps through the surrounding forest seems to play tricks on one’s mind, and is notorious for getting travelers lost. Despite living here and being familiar with the area, the not-cats of Dog Bus are no exception. They have set up torches to help guide them back home, should they ever get lost while away from the bus, but there is more than simply “getting lost” that they have to worry about. For some unknown cause (although the cats have attributed the mist as being a large factor, if not the sole reason), the forest here seems to have a particular effect on the residents of Dog Bus.
The sightings of strange beasts in the area aren’t some new, undiscovered species, but rather the not-cats themselves. It seems to happen at random, and more so in certain areas of the misty woodland, but this strange, beastly transformation does not occur in the meadow where Dog Bus resides as the mist does not– or cannot– reach it. The meadow is the one safe place where the villagers don’t have to feel the forest’s eerie touch.
