Icarus is a rather soft-spoken not-cat whose voice only rises when angered. She is a guardian for her adventuring team, and a very good one at that. She doesn't do much of the combat, though; mostly just sponging up hits while the rest of the team does the real work. She thinks of herself as a kind, if slightly skittish not-cat who cares immensely for others and is hurt just as deeply by loss or betrayal.

Acquired from her very first defeat of Shadow of Nestor. The team decided that Icarus should have it, as they never would've survived long enough to even get near him without her.

Given to her as almost-a-joke by Tune, a cat from a neighboring village, who found her singing in the forest so enchanting, they just had to come find the source.

Primarily just a damage-sponge and pretty okay with that. Pain and strife have followed her her whole life; at least this time she's keeping others safe instead of running away. She has 45hp and is almost eager to put that cap to good use. Thanks to her very high initiative and movement speed, her general strategy is to guard Prowler, take a good couple of hits for him while he cleans up the area with his double bolts and precision bolting. They're a good team already, but The Moss and Everything Moves are good for stragglers and blocking in lower-stealth enemies around obstacles.

✧ABILITIES✧

✧ BOLT ✧
Icarus is much better with ranged attacks than she is close-range. It feels oddly fitting to her, given her namesake, in a way she can't really put her finger on.

✧ FIRST AID ✧
Icarus' first aid skill is lacking compared to Prowler's, but she's quite alright with that. They have plenty of items to boost health instead.

✧ BLOCK ✧
Blocking isn't something she does often (unless I forget that she needs to stay close to another cat to actually do anything useful, whoops), but she will generally take to it over first aid.

✧ GUARD ✧
This is where Icarus really shines. She's not particularly fast or strong, or even very smart, but taking hits for others is what she's good at. She takes hits that her fellow teammates would fall to half health on with a surprising amount of tranquility. Basic monsters don't scare her; she's taken on the Shadow of Nestor and came out on top.

✧STORY✧

This will be a quick rundown of the main events that've happened to Icarus! Feel free to read the rest, it's not placeholder, just a bit less condensed!

✧i. RUNNING ✧

Icarus is a cat who was born in a war-torn village. She was never given a proper name, and as soon as she was old enough to run away, she was hunted down by cats much bigger than her at a very early age. Running away is all she knew for a very, very long time. She never had time to get to know anyone, and the fear of leaving everything she loves will forever haunt her in the back of her mind.

✧ii. NOT SO ALONE? ✧

While running, she found Warchild, another unnamed young not-cat running from all the bloodshed. The two agreed to become friends for survival, even though neither of them were really sure what being a friend meant at the time.

✧iii. WELCOME TO ELSEWHERE ✧

After finally tiring of running and collapsing of exhaustion, they were found by an Elsewhere not-cat: a village full of not-cats who admittedly seemed oblivious to the concept of war. For the best, they both agreed: no one here to start one. As they were dragged in, fur caked in mud and dried dirt, Ship in a Bottle suggested that Icarus looked familiar, but was unable to discern where from.

Icarus and Warchild would quickly be given their Elsewhere names, as Swan Song greatly emphasized with their hardship and struggle to stay alive. Although confused, the pair would accept their new, or rather, first ever proper names.

✧iv. SINGING IN THE FOREST ✧

After spending time in the forest, Icarus would meet Tune, who rather unceremoniously threw a flower at the not-cat's face after hearing a beautiful song in the woods they just had to find the source of. Turns out, Tune's village isn't far, and even better, they're nearly identical not-cats!

✧v. FAMILY ✧

And then... Mr. Fear appeared. A nameless warrior whose paws were stained with blood. He introduced himself as The Stranger, and Icarus noticed she looked almost identical to him. She quietly watched as he shared stories of the war-torn village he had to abandon just to protect.

✧RELATIONSHIPS✧

✧ They're all each other had for a very, very long time. Their relationship isn't exactly unhealthy, but Warchild is extremely insecure and anxious, while Icarus has made significant progress (which only makes Warchild more insecure). Icarus wants to help Warchild heal, but Warchild thinks she is broken and that she needs to be fixed. They're slowly drifting apart because of it. ✧

✧ Although Icarus was scared in the new village, Bottle was the first to reach out to her. She was the first not-cat to show Icarus kindness when she needed it, to recognize that there's something more than a wounded soldier beneath her matted fur. There's a heart of gold inside Icarus, and Bottle wants them to see it the way she can. ✧

✧ Adoptive Sibling ✧

✧ Tune and Icarus are almost physically identical, leading them to believe that they're siblings in some way or another. Although genetically unrelated and older, Tune has obnoxious but loving-in-their-own-way younger sibling energy, while Icarus is tired but also loving older sister energy (even though she's a bit younger than Tune). They enjoy each other's company to a very close degree, even though sometimes they really can't stand each other, if that makes sense. ✧

✧ Best Friends ✧

✧ Icarus and Hero became best friends as pen-pals, essentially. Hero often wrote to the village cats on his breaks from travel, and Icarus was the only one to ever write back. Sometimes, Hero had to leave abruptly and would miss the delivery, but after returning from his travel, he's like her older brother. ✧


💗 Mr. Fear 💗

✧ Mr. Fear has never known trust and safety, so adjusting to the fact that he has not one but two children has been a bit more than just "stressful". However, he loves Icarus and Tune both dearly, and he's certain of it because the sacrifices he's made go beyond combat. They're into domestic life, something he's avoided for as long as possible. But he often finds himself with them sleeping beside him, or Icarus and Bottle telling each other stories by the fireplace in his cottage near the outskirts of the village. He would do anything for them, and he's done his best to show her that. ✧


🏹 Prowler 🏹
✧ Friends/Adventuremates ✧

✧ Unlike with her other teammates, Icarus' relationship with Prowler goes beyond being adventure mates. She is rather fond of Prowler and their mysterious but admittedly efficient way with ranged weaponry. He, in turn, respects Icarus' more than frequent sacrifice for the success of the team, and they often share their rests together in some way or another. ✧


☀️ Everything Moves ☀️

✧ Everything Moves and Icarus don't know each other well, and they really don't ever plan to. They are useful to each other, and while that point of view may slightly bother Icarus, she knows you can't change a cat's disinterest in her. However, Everything Moves is extremely efficient in combat, if a bit chaotic, and Icarus values both of those things. After all, you can hardly predict a not-cat's move if they can't even predict aerself. ✧


🍃 The Moss 🍃

✧ Moss tends to irritate Icarus in ways she isn't proud of. She wants to like it, but something about the not-cat irks her on a very personal level. It's disrespectful of Prowler, their unofficial leader, and frequently demands an explanation that goes beyond wanting to understand. It is unkind to the rest of the team, and the team synergy that Icarus has worked so hard to create. Even though it's efficient in battle, it refuses to work with the rest of them, and that tends to cause problems. ✧

✧TRIVIA & DESIGN NOTES✧

✧i. TRIVIA✧
✧- I feel the need to remind you all that Icarus is shredded, at least as far as not-cats go. To take hits like she does requires a lot of body mass to not instantly crumble into dust, and boy does she have it. She's no good at physical attacks, but that's mostly because she's needed elsewhere, not because she's weak.
✧- Icarus is named after the song Icarus by Bastille

✧ii. DESIGN NOTES✧
✧- Her design was originally to be loosely inspired by the white-winged magpie! The patterning was mostly scrapped, as her designer, EmeraldBirb, decided that she should be a more sun bleached cat (similar to this).
