A common question from users who just signed up is "So, now what?" This guide goes over site mechanics and answers some of the questions you may have as someone who just signed up.

This guide is designed to be short and simple, so not everything is covered. If you are looking for a more in-depth and sectioned out guide, please see A Newbie's Guide to Cat's End.

When you first sign up, you are presented with a lot of information: story behind not-cats and Not-Earth, the creation of your custom cat, and the decision of choosing a randomized starter squad. By the time you're reading this guide, you'll have already completed all three of those, presenting you with the question "Where, exactly, am I supposed to begin?"

Heading to your profile, you will see a section called "Daily Activities." Each icon represents one of the sites "dailies" (activities that are completed once a day). If the icon is greyed out, you have not completed the activity. If it is colored, then you have.


Note: clicking the above icon will provide you a hint about what you're looking at!

The available dailies are as follows:


Visit the Meeting Grounds. Say hello to Nestor to receive a free item or cat.


Enjoy Luncheon. Feed your cats a meal to boost their stats when completing day jobs and going adventuring. Note: to unlock the Luncheon feature, you need to first craft a Bonfire or Oven building item.


Gather some resources. Assign your cats day jobs and send them out to bring back items related to their profession.


Complete Daily Scenarios. Explore scenarios within your village to establish relationships and find items.


Visit the Post Office. Check your mailbox to see if you received any letters from Your Neighbors or a traveling cat.


What's this? This icon is related to the magic system which is still in development. It will be grey for quite a while!

After completing your dailies, you'll be left wondering what's left to do. Typically, pet sites have other activities which can be completed infinitely at someone's leisure or that have a rollover time throughout the day.

Pixel Cat's End is currently in beta. This means that this site is still being developed but is at a point where testing can expand over a large group of members rather than a select few. That being said, many of the site's main components are still being worked on. This doesn't mean that dailies are the only things available to do! Here is a list of other mechanics you can take advantage of:

1. The Cat Sandbox. The sandbox will let you preview what different colors, patterns, and clothing look like. This is a good tool for creating cat designs you want and also designing outfits you'd like to give your cats.
   
2. Decorate your Scenery. Head over to your Scenery to design imagery utilizing your cats and decor items. The Scene Sandbox can be used to plan scenes you'd like to eventually make in the future.
   
3. Craft items in The Crafting Workshop. Craft buildings to unlock more occupations, clothing and decor to dress your cats and decorate your Scenery, and other helpful gear and specialty items.
   
4. Explore Adventuring. Organize a party of cats and explore areas to fight monsters and bring home loot!
   
5. Write lore for your cats. Give them a backstory and expand on their personality!
   
6. Post on the Forums. There's a community waiting!
   

Pet sites have a lot of intricacies and details to learn! Here is a list of common questions or misconceptions that new players come across.

How do I get cats?
Cats can be obtained from the following:

1. From the Meeting Grounds.
   
2. Having a partnership have a litter a beans.
   
3. Obtaining them from other players through the forums or Cat Recruitment Board.
   
4. Using a Business Card item (dropped, most commonly, through Adventuring's bosses).

How do I get [item name]?
Visit the Item Database! Not sure where a craftable item is from? Check out the Crafting Recipes Database.

How do I get Planks?
Planks are crafted through the Builder day job. They need 3 Sticks to perform their job.

How do I unlock [job]?
Under Village Activities -> Crafting Workshops, you'll be going to Builder or Mason to unlock jobs. Buildings that unlock jobs have a note on their recipe that they do.

Note that only crafting the building unlocks the job; buying the building doesn't unlock it. On that note, selling your only copy of a building doesn't lock the job again.

How many days are in a season?
Each season is 49 days long.

Traveling vs. Sending to the City
This is important! On your cat's profile, you will see two options: Send Traveling and Send to the City. These two options seem similar, however they are different!

Traveling means that the cat is off to see the world. These cats stay in your village and have a chance to write letters to home and can be interacted with like any of your active cats with a few exceptions: they cannot have a litter of beans, do day jobs, be placed in Scenery (unless you have an Innkeeper Specialty Role) or join your Adventuring squad. Consider traveling to be a 'storage' for cats to allow you to own more without having hundreds of new items be generated daily. These cats can return from traveling at any time once their cooldown is over.

Sending to the City is how you remove unwanted cats from the game. Sending a cat to the city will permanently remove them from your village. You will receive a small care package of notes and items for sending a cat to the city. Cats who are sent to the city receive a randomized lore blurb and keep all of their relationships they had at the time of being sent to the city.

How do I make money?
Currently the best way to make money is to sell items through Quick Sales or to sell items to another user through the forums or Open Marketplace. If you dabble in the arts, selling your art can bring in some notes from other players.

Posting your cats
On the site, you can use this code to post your cats:



A formatted sharing code can be found on every cat's profile.

For posting off-site, due to how images are currently generated, you will need to take a screenshot of your cat to post them.

Name changes
You can change the name and pronouns of your cat by going to their profile and choosing "Edit Biographical Info."

You can change the name of your village by going to your profile and choosing "Edit Profile."

What is the bar under my username?
It shows how long you've been playing the game! Here is when the bar fills up:

- 28 Days
- 49 Days
- 98 Days
- 196 Days
- 392 Days
- 588 Days
- 784 Days

Here's some things that are commonly reported as bugs, but are intended behaviors.

An Adventuring enemy is listed as a Building
Some Adventuring enemies were drawn too large, so they were classified as Buildings to avoid having to completely redo the art.

My cat with a negative modifier rolled a 20
Every single cat has the chance to roll a 20 when performing their day job. The modifier only affects the bottom of the range, meaning a -2 cat can roll between -1 and 20. A +4 cat can roll between 5 and 20, etc.

I cannot use a Specialty item on a cat
This one is a bit broad, so here's a list of reasons that may apply to you:

1. Adolescent cats can only have Friends and Rivals, so items to become Partners or Best Friends won't work on them.
   
2. Cats can only have a combination of 4 Partners and Best Friends, so no more can be added after that.
   
3. North x North Wind and South x South Wind pairs cannot breed, so they cannot have Catmint Tea used on them.

I can use a Love Letter Collection on my cat who is set to No Partners, or 1 Partner Limit and already has a Partner
This is intended so if you do want to make a cat Partners with a specific other cat, you don't need to enable allowing Partners to use the item.

Nestor's dialogue isn't changing
Nestor's dialogue when you visit him in the Meeting Grounds before collecting his gift is set manually by Squid. It gets changed when they decide to update it.

Scenario #42 gave me a Fish instead of a Rock
Scenarios are not "smart" enough to hand out items depending on what the scenario says. Instead, they pull from a group of items depending on the location the scenario takes place in. Sometimes this means a rock will fall from the ceiling and give you a fish.
