The thread for selling cats and items is nice but can be pretty messy. Some people just dont like posting on threads, finding things on threads isnt easy. And just in general its harder to keep everything organized. Alot of already finished threads are over and done with but still there

Why not make a new area where you can post what your looking for and people can put offers on your post? Or you can just put up a cat/item and let people offer? I know its possible to at least put something up and let people offer anything ranging for currency to cats. It would mainly be so people can put up things their looking for (Mainly in text form.) and people to put up things they are selling (Could have images/link to the item/cat itself) that people can post offers on. (It will allow you to select cats/items like you do for sending a trade to someone, for both sides of the poster and offering)

This will allow posts to go down after awhile so when something is traded its removed to keep it nice and tidy. You can bump the post or add time if needed. You will have the option to reject offers and say why it was rejected (only seen by the person who got rejected.)

To keep people from getting worried about their offers there could be a option for hidden offers, Which aren't seen by other people but the owner of the post can see it. Of course the owner of the post would have the option to have hidden offers off. There would be text saying if hidden offers was on or off so people know before putting an offer.

You can search and possibly add LF, or trading to your post so its eaiser to find things

It could also be that you can create “listings”, sort of similar to how you list things on OM, but instead of listing a price, you just list that you have that item, and/or are looking for that item.

The board could be split into two sections, Haves and Wants (with better names?).
In the Haves sections, you would list an item/cat or set of items/cats and allow a comment section so the “seller” can outline what sort of things they’re looking for.
Or maybe you could list one item for another item! So, say I have a Dark Hunter’s Scarf and I’m looking for a Light Hunter’s Scarf; I’d list that I Have the Dark one and then make the “price” the Light one, and if someone wanted it they could just hit a “buy” button and do an automatic trade without needing to message back and forth and make a new Private Trade

In the Wants section you would also be making “listings”, it would just be for the things you’re looking for. This would make it a lot easier to use the current format of the OM search, both in the Haves and the Wants sections.


It all depends whether it gets implemented more like the forums, where you can have a back and forth and have multiple people making offers on the same listing; or whether it acts more like a trades version of the OM, where you making listings of things you’re selling or things you’re looking for


EDIT: It could also be like, a meld of both. Where you could either do an instant 1:1 trade, OR outline what you’re looking for people to offer

I suppose I don't really understand the purpose of this when we have systems in place already to cover the bases.

Past sales threads being up is a good thing because it allows people to search (combing through individual threads or using Google) to see what the same thing or similar thing went for in the past. It's up to the OP to properly mark their threads as closed.

The OM and CRB have an established system where sellers can leave comments if they're interested in offers rather than flat-sales.

I worry about the communication that can take place on this system. Will chat be built in to negotiate offers? If you have to PM the seller, then that really isn't any different than using OM/CRB.

Someone also previously suggested a buy-side market (I put up a wanted ad for Catmint Tea for 600n, and someone can click Sell to sell theirs to me) that I feel I prefer compared to this.

Chat will be built in, but restricted to a single comment on your post, and the post of the people posting on it.

The best example I could give was what was shown. Its not really talking. Its someone asks for something or trades, and someone then puts their offer. If accepted it becomes a trade and then the other puts in their things. If there is already a item/ect instead of just a Looking for when its accepted, It just completes it like a trade and the post is removed. Multiple can offer on the post

Its a area where people can post what their looking for, or trading, and people can put in their own items/cats/Currencies and you can accept it there.

Its more so a way where its not flat sales vs om and crb with set prices. You can put whatever is tradeable on these posts. And see what people are looking for in real time vs dms and searching forms. If they wanna dm instead if post thats their choice and still keeps things cleaner than threads, since it gets removed after a trade is completed and doesn't have a backlog of people asking to take it to dms. Just the main post, and what others are offering will remain making it easily to glance, and instantly understand and find what your looking for

Sure forms is good to look back on but finding anything can be stressful going through already finished trades with no indication

Your looking for a -- cat? Someone has that cat! oh boy open thread. Cat was trading away already and you got your hopes up. You put up post looking for cat. Gets drowned out by other posts that are givaways or super active or always bumped, maybe even some finished threads with similar names. Hard to find. You can't search. You have the manually look through every thread.

Search for --- cat, Oh a post! Open post. See what person wants in their comment (Cat already on post/trade on their side). See what others offer if its not hidden.Offer ---. Wait to see if accepted. If accepted trade done you get cat they get ---. If rejected you get a message saying why rejected. Either try again or dont

This way there is a search bar, and taking the idea from Darkfang, wants/has sections. Its neater, allows people to quickly do auctions, offers, or looking for so much eaiser. without a long thread that could get confusing and then confuse others as they look around if it remained.

I personally dont look at threads for sales its to cluttered. Plus I just- Don't like going through threads to find anything. I may like reading but thats a whole lotta reading to possibly find nothing of intrest. Vs, Open trading board, easy scroll and click. Or search something specific. No mass reading/searching. Easy point n click.

I really don't see the point of this compared to the CRB / OM either. You can contact the seller, the seller can leave notes as to haggles/offers/etc. It seems like it's remaking a lot of functionality that already exists. OM/CRB has everything you're saying except seeing other offers / auctioning ... And like, I get that looking through threads can be a little bit of a hassle sometimes but they do everything you want that OM/CRB doesn't otherwise?

At absolute best I could see adding an 'offer' ability to the OM/CRB similar to the tradepost back on like, Neopets, maybe, but building an entirely new system is super redundant and would just split the market community even more than OM/CRB//Threads as it is.

Edit: In development it's generally better to not re-create systems for one small addition/change especially when those systems already exist in another form, so a whole new system is definitely a no support from me. I have no idea how feasible adding an offer system for the OM/CRB would be but it's the only way I'd say support to something like this, I think.

This isn't really a chat, then, it's just a comment which isn't very helpful. What if I offer a Glitterdust on your looking for and comment I have other colors if that interests you more? You can't directly reply to me, you'd have to PM me or comment on my profile, so it's still a bit of a redundant feature compared to CRB and OM.

Giveaways aren't allowed in the Item and Cat sales boards, so just do your best to bump your thread occasionally using the button on the OP tools. You are able to search by using Google's search operators. Use:

in your search to refine it to just PCE. You can't do specific categories, unfortunately.

Also, with forum search potentially coming in the future being unable to search the sales boards will be addressed.

The core idea just seems like a glorified sales forum now that I think about it. I'm sure some may find it easier but personally I'd rather development time go towards other things than this, which explains my position.

There is no limit to how many offers you can put on there. Just do different silk scarfs and they can accept the one they like most and do another post. And how would you know they had some that intrested them more unless you state it in you comment? surely the person in their comment of the post would state what their looking for exactly. Meaning you already know and can put them in without any messages. Also they can reply that others intrest you more by rejecting your offer and stating that in the rejection reason. I think I forgot to say that would be a thing. And then you can add a offer with it.

If they just state their looking for Silkscarfs then they, based on a honest assumption, Want any silk scarfs and so you put any in. They accept and it starts a trade since its in the "looking for". They then put in their offer and you go from there.

As for the search feature- Its messy. Alot of people don't know about it, and I dont see why adding this would be not helpful. Just cause there are things that work doesn't mean they are streamlined and easy. Even if search is added to threads it still leaves the mass amount of remaining dead threads to scavange through. The mass amount of comments to read through. Threads are just that, threads. Talking happens there for many reasons which clog up what your looking for. This skips that and allows fast and easy understandable trades and looking for.

I proably described this all wrong though. Its nowhere near a Form, there is no chatting other than the comments. Its a trading area. What I had shown was supposed to be the layout of how it would work. I cant design websites. Let alone a trading feature that lets you post something, and others can then post on it after with their own items. And you can accept or deny the items and it instantly make a trade if you put no items in, or instantly go through with a trade if you already had items in.
